To the Seniors: Life has been philosophically depicted in many ways. Shakespeare, in his famous HSeven Agesn speech,c mpared life to a trip across a stage. Life can also be regarded as a never ending exploration into new experiences. Exploration, as the the e for this year's HBlueprintn is, therefore, most appropriate in describing your four years at Tech. You began as timid little fresh en making an exploration of the building. After a quick adjustment to a new environment, you started an unceasing series of explorations into the realms of the intellect. The entire world of science, literature, mathematics, the social studies, art and music was made available to you. You rediscovered Ivanhoe's mediaeval England, Newton's laws of motion and relived the days of the French Revolution. The best of thirty centuries of human thought passed before your eyes in four short years. I am sure you will realize that the exploration remains unfinished not only now, but four years from now, or as long as you live. To the aero design class of course! Here, boys experienced in strength of materials, aero theory, lab, draw- ing, and shop are able to turn out first-class designs in a professional manner. 350444. lil .51 Y ral K f J f mt The grcmlins who literally raise the roof in the Building Construction Shop are all mem- bers of the Architectural course. Another aspect of the course is the Drafting Room where pupils are schooled in the art of archi- tectural rendering-doodling on a large piece of paper-and encouraged in the Held of im- aginative thinking-day dreaming. There in the Southeast corner of the cafeteria we see a chem course lad ex- ploring deeper into the realm of his future profession. Here in Tech a future scientist is striving to manufacture a rare commodity, Coke. This exploration is important to the Technite who someday must apply his knowl- edge of chemistry to feeding the people of the world and to producing new materials for the betterment of our civilization. l, rf' . aff e n '. K SELF THUGHT 4 f-n ll' in the near future the Tech C.O. were to send an exploratory group to the Moon or even more remote, our cafeteria, certainly a few of the CP. Hhrainsu would he taken along as interpreters. These linguists specialize in French or German, but their value to the trip would not end there. These college-bound scholarship seekers are able to double in brass for a chemist, physicist, draftsman, or shop technician. Evidently, the College Prep course stresses versatility and it is for this reason that it is so popular. CCLLEGE PREP ar I , -19 . Z,, i IZ lr Exploring Tech might he fun, at least until thc hapless adventurer wanders into an elec- trical shop. Here, unless possessing a working knowledge of generators, tesla coils, and phase- shifting circuits, our modern Columbus might encounter serious trouble. ln these shops our electrified Technites practice what their in- structors preach. The course prepares boys to take their place in today's highspeed industry and glso to continue their studies in college. J v ,f-J Q ,ir t X A cf, Q Mtlff 'I 1' R K ' . .ax ll rl 14 + ,fb 4 XXI INDUSTRIAL DESIGN The space ships used by future explorers will be very different from the caravels of the fifteenth century sailors, but the problems of their design will be similar. Who will solve these problems along with the engineer? It will be the industrial designer, to whom we owe much of the daily comfort and conven- ience we now enjoy. Our I.D. boys even now adorn Tech's wall's with their professionally executed drawings of future cars, planes, and appliances. MECHANICAL 16 TIME MACHINE ll ' , af f I Io W 'Q I On all floors of Tech the boys in the Mech- anical course will be seen hard at work in their shops. They are foundry workers, pattern- makers, and skilled machinists during their trip through Tech. These mechanics are also heard mumbling about internal combustion engines and strength of materials problems. Well, that shoulcln't surprise you. With all that pound- ing and hammering going on in the Structural Shop, you would think they were taking the sehool clown. llowever, you can relax because l know for a fact they are not really taking the school clown hut are just trying to make us think they are. The Service Squad is the largest organization in the school, comprising over 700 Technites. Their duties are numerous and the difficult job of keeping the squad running was given this term to Captain Edwin Pearlman and Inspectors Richard Sugarman and Howard Bolling. Directing the squad, whose initials stand for Safety, Order, Service, is Mr. Starr. Tech's trafhc, thanks to these boys, is kept moving. wwf .. This pin represents the honor, the high- est any student can receive from his school, which has been bestowed upon him. Along with this honor comes responsibility. Tech's Arista members are called upon to proctor and mark entrance examina- tions, and to serve with the program committee. The cream of the elite, Arista's graduating ofhcers, are: Lowell Rosen, Leader, joseph Eppich, Vice Leader, and councillors lreneus Harasymialc and Costas Mallios. Aside from their service to the school, the club has social and athletic functions of its own. This term the group is losing three men, all of whom have earned a hne reputation in Tech. Mr. Flaumenhaffs boys put out the Survey every three weeks and it is eagerly awaited by all Teehnites. The Math Student, under the leadership of Mr. Rothman, will again present us with the opportun- ity of learning the latest news in the world of mathematics. Our cultural enthusiasts will of course have Miss lleslin's pride and joy, Horizons, to scan in their abundant free time. The Science Bulletin, now under the direction of Mr. Tucker, has built a Fine reputation among Techs science minded boys. With Herbert Shore as editor, it will again turn out a well rounded journal. MUSIC Every year we look forward to an enjoyable Assembly given by the Music Department. This year, as in the past, Mr. Troxell is the director of the Glee Club. The clance band, which provides the music for many Tech dances and is featured in the most popular assembly program, is under the leadership of Mr. Garter. Tech's Marching Band plays at football games and is Tech's representative in parades. The Blue and White will be full of spark again, with almost all of last year's starters re- turning. Coach Cirillo is confident that the Engineers will be undisputed Champs this year. BASEBALL This year, as always, Techs nine made a line showing in PSAL competition. Tony Aversano and Fred Phster, the team's senior members, played starring roles in Mr. Wag- ner's aggregation of future stars. Tony played a strong center Field while Fred led the team with a phenomenal .556 batting average. The team, lacking a nearby practice field, will try to make up for this by starting practice well in advance ol' the regular season. Led by such fine players as Pete Yellin and Neil Schroeder, the basketeers have a core of vet- erans around which they can build. The. present group, although not as big as last year's, makes up in hustle what it laeks in size. Cheering them on from the sidelines will be Fred Pfister, the only senior from last year's squad. Its motto, a parallel to that of the government of our country, is: Of the students and for the students, and is the main thought throughout its constitution. Under the constant guidance of its honorary president, Mr. Longo, the GO. pro- vides the funds for all extracurricular activities and also grants honors and awards to those deserving recognition in all fields of sport and cultural endeavors. Each term, the boys of Tech vote for the man to Hll the position of president and vice president. This year the officers are: joseph Sabbatino, President, Walter Strobach, Vice'President, and Thomas jaworsky, Secretary. Those things which seem so large at the start diminish in size as time passes and we rise higher. Now as we prepare to leave this phase ol' our education we may look back over these four years and smile at the titanic mountains we climbed. Think back to the dark ages when as a freshman you bought an elevator pass to visit the swimming pool on the roof. Then there was the iirst day when you ate your luneh in the boiler room looking for the cafeteria. Little did you know that the boiler room was more peaceful. Do you remember the day you tasted your first Teeh special, the endless periods you spent in l.P. lecture rooms eopying English notes, and the numerous tests you tlunked before you became adept at using student reference ehartsu? Remember the urge to kill that came over you when during sixth period lunch you were Hrst on the lunch line, practically starved, and a barrage of seniors with passes pushed in ahead of you? V in lfinally alter a year ol' suhway riding you hecame a soph- omore. A lieeling of pride swept over you when some mis- tlireeted lreslirnan ealled you mister and you felt indignant toward Ll senior trying to sell you an elevator pass. Then helore you knew it you were a junior and were looking for- ward to the junior prom that never came. All of a sudden one hriglit sunny clay you found yourself walking on top of the world. Imagine lmeing a Brooklyn Tech senior! A wild year of college applications, scholarship examinations and regents led up to graduation. The senior prom and the moment you pinned the senior lmutton on your favorite girl, surely these will he remembered.
