When the subject of Track was brought up some years ago We had a desire to change the subject. However, in the past three years, Mr. Adam Cir- illo and Mr. Phil Weis, coaches of the Track and Cross-country teams, respectively, have been extremely successful in raising the sport to its deserved place among Tech's list of athletics. As proof, the 194-8 Cross-country Squad captured the Boro Championship. Bowling has added much to the Engineer ath- letic tradition. Following in the footsteps of Jerry Holiber and Marv Wolman, the present team, coached by Mr. Harry Krede, consisting of Cap- tain Hank Kurtz, Jerry D'Antonio, Larry Pisani, and Gene Fasullo, is attempting to gain perma- nent possession of the P.S.A.L. trophy by winning its third boro title. Our crack golf and table tennis teams, both under the reins of Mr. John Balsam, have also carved niches for themselves in Blue and White athletic history. The Golfmen, who annexed the Brooklyn Championship in 1948, will lose John Goodlet and Captain Art Stoll. Norm Tauber, Phil Broadman, and Captain Larry Hartstein, unde- feated in four years of interscholastic compe- tition, will he lost to the Tablemen. The Wallmen have done equally well, winning the Boro Championship in 1945. This year the Wallmen will lose Eddie Wohlers, Howie Wein- stein, Marv Haiken, and Art Kaufman through graduation. Soccer was resumed after a decade of inactiv- ity in 19444, and since that time Coach Henry Dorin's crew have revived it to such an extent that the Kickers are now in a position to chal- lenge mighty Lafayette for Boro honors. ln 1948 the Booters iniiicted the first defeat that the Frenchmen have suffered on their home field in a decade. Captain Helmuth Werner, a true great', who has placed on the all-scholastic team in three successive campaigns, heads the list of graduating lettermen: Pinky Pinczower, Manny Policandritis, ,lerry Landauer, and Bill Kristiansen. . . Did you ever see an ideal walking . . socialite A shy Technite and Marv Kohn dance with two Bay Ridge girls at the Friday Afternoon Social Club. Okay! So your school has almost everythingl But is there a social life? Letis take a look. The GD. sponsored several dances each term, usually taking the name of the dance from the moods then current such as the Bunny Hop at Easter and the Turkey Trot at Thanksgiving. For those boys who preferred a more informal atmosphere the G.0. regularly invited andfor imported bright young lassies from the various girlis schools to the social club held on Friday afternoon. Because the affairs became almost commonplace our class seeking some novelty instituted the first Tech Junior Prom, which was held at the Hotel New Yorker. So, considering all these and other functions llike Senior Nite that was held on June l7l, Techmen can give a very definite Hyesw in answer to the question: Hldut do you also liv-e?l' Technites and their dates engage in some lively terpsichorian activities at the annual Spring Fling.
