It was the night of November 7, 1947 at Eb- bets Field. We were among 20,000 frost-bitten fans yelling ourselves hoarse, as we watched our grid Warriors clear their last hurdle on their way to their ultimate destination by smacking down Boys High, 21-6. The finish, a week later, was anticlimactic. Our grid machine proceeded to flatten Manual, 39-19. The Cirollomen were City Champs, undefeated and untiedl A year later 119485 in the same stadia we alternately fretted and groaned with lumps in our throats, or tried vainly to exhort our heroes to greater heights, as our three-year dominance of N.Y.C. football came to an end on a missed con- version against Manual. Ben Mione streaks tor the goalline-iust ahead ot a would-be Lincoln tackler. Bob Jasinski is brought to earth by two Lafayette tacklers after making a short gain. The Tech bench gazes with anticipation at the action taking place on the Hempstead gridiron. Every man on that unforgettable 1947 squad was at star in his own right. 'ln front of our spec- tacular field general, Ben Mione, and his back- iield magicians, Gene Uehlinger, Murray Jones, and Joe Gragano, was a hard-charging, unyielding forward wall. In the middle of it was Norm Carney. He was flanked by the two Bills, lannen and Wetzel, and they in turn collaborated with the two Charlies, Metzler and Assiff, to rip gaping holes in the enemy line. Vince Turrini and Bill Ryan, a pair of fleetfooted wingmen, were a deceptive pass-catching duo. This year's squad loses Thor Gjelsten through graduation. . Q W W by is txt? GN V1

thrilling of schoolboy athletic contests. The impos- ing galaxy of stars, including Sam Hall and Ricky Ayala, serve notice to those who are still to come that they have inherited a rich tradition of hoop history. The members of the Eastern District nine will look at this yearbook with more than passing in- terest. Undoubtedly they will look first under HC of the senior record section. If they find the smiling face of one Lawrence Contillo, theyill he very happy. Why? Simply because they've been humbled in two successive campaigns by our twin no-hit-kids Sonny Sundstrom and Skippy Con- tillo. .H f,, its ' x I , , 3. -7 i V Q r ' ' J I l .M HY Larry lSkippyl Contillo is carried 'from Ebloets Field on the shoulders ot his teammates atter pitching his no-hitter against Hamilton. That 194-8 Boro Championship Nine should long be remembered, and their offensive and de- fensive skills can be a target for the Diamond- men of the future. An outfield of Doria, Dragotta, and Ferrare will be hard to match. We recall how we sat under the broiling sun on ,lune 8, 1948 at Ebbets Field to watch the Wagner- men cross bats with Lincoln for Boro laurels. We remember Sal l7errare's rifle shot peg that cut down an Honest Abe runner with the poten- tial tying marker, and preserved our 1-0 victory. The remnants of that great aggregation-Bob Doria, fleet outfielder, Sam Markowitz, flashy first-sacker, Stratos Kantounis, and Ed Sayegh- leave with us. Stratos Kantounis dives tor third in an encounter with Cleveland. l K' E ss 9 5 3 Y N , ,,4

Graduating with us will be Charles Robisch and Co-captains Stan Fishbein and Bob Blish, three men who will take their places alongside the other aces that have made our Rifle Team one of the most feared in schoolboy rifle circles. The Engineer Swimming Team ran up a string of fifty-four consecutive victories before they were stopped by Madison in 1946. It was fitting that Madison should again be the threat to the Blue and White victory parade. Both teams, undefeated, came to grips in the Tech pool to decide the Brooklyn Championship. This time the Engineers swam away with the laurels, 36-31. Many other Mermen have helped extend the new winning streak of the Connellmen to its pres- ent 16. Outstanding among these are ,loe Shan- non, Roger Duke, Carl Cording, Walt Brundage and Newt Pincus. And so it goes in other sports. The Tennis Team, led by Len Steiner, captured two succes- sive Boro crowns and one City Title, the latter in 1946. Captain Bob Liebers, Jeff Hagen, Jack Kaplan, Bob Abrams, Ed Burke, and Fred Lind- heim will be graduated this term.
