"""""v X In the rear of the A Crowd. a man stood. watching. An old fedora, its hrim upturned. rested on his head. and a used lilaeli Navy Cape was slung across his hroad shoulders. He stood stifily. because his legs were encased hy metal hraees. As they were hurying the President. he smiled. They were hurying the President. All of America was mourning the loss of their leader. People sat in their homes quietly. remembering the Fireside Chats and the Newsreels. No one noticed the man sitting lieside them in their living rooms. He sat. wearing a hlaek Cape and an old fedora hat, and he was smiling. They were hurying the President. In far-off hattlefields. men heard the news and fought with a new purpose. In the trenches with them. wear- ing a hlack cape and an upturned hat. was a man, and he was smiling more 1-onfidently than ever. He was smiling lievause he had faith in the people. And as we return to our elassrooins and tasks. sitting beside us is one who shares our hardships. helps us with our troubles. and laughs with us. He is wearing an old, upturned fedora, and a hlaela Navy Cape. and he has a Cigarette holder elutvhed in his mouth at a jaunty angle. AND SJ, MY FIIENDS we Jag, 9000!-Age: Olftlf' gum is not much in comparison to man's allotted span of 'three score and ten, but how important are those spent at Brooklyn Techl Wfhat hopes and aspirations are nurtured here! What lasting friendships devel- oped! Wliat profound changes-physical, mental and spiritual, occur with- inthe span of these four yearsl Of the seven ages of man, it seems that one of them is encompassed Within the short period of the high school years. During these four years. you grew from childhood dependency to young manhood, upon which your country relies today as its first line of defense. Your experiences during these four years were many and varied. You learned to think accurately and scientifically. You gained confidence in defending your point of view in many different situations. You acquired a great variety of skills and special techniques. You became familiar with the underlying principles of science and mathematics as they are applied in modern teclmology. Many of you have gained the assurance which comes from the rough and tumble and the keen competition of sports. Others of you have de- veloped talents in literary endeavor or in the pursuit of useful hobbies. For all, it has been a rich program of education. Now the four years are nearly over. and you are ready to move on to new fields. lust as Tech has enriched your life during these four years. so have you contributed to the growth of a great institution. You have played a part in the life of the school.
