With this two-fold aim as our goal we have had a memorable year in Brookings High School. One of the most outstanding of all our activities this past year was the Leap Year Spinster Dance which we sponsored on February 9. Because of the introduction of a new and cheaper mu- sical system this dance proved the most profitable of all school dances. lt has been the privilege of this organ- ization to attend two out-of-town games. During the football season we attend- ed the game at Huron, and during the basketball season we joined with a large crowd of loyal rooters at Sioux l:2illS. season we sponsored the annual SSS Christmas basket. The response of the student body made this one of our most generous contributions. This year our club has been unusually active in presenting assembly programs and in taking part in pep meetings. We were fortunate in having a group of girls who excel in original writing, and they supplied the script for several assembly programs, Miss Margaret E. Mauch has served us as adviser for the past year. OFFICERS President .,.,,. .. ..,. Doris Ann Schaffner Social Chairman and Vice President . ,.,., , ..., Wanda Stime Secretary-Treasurer .. Rolwrtzi Shi.-u, liniiiiii Insi.-. An executive board of fourteen mem- bers manages not only our athletic activ- ities, but our social and financial as well. A resourceful organization, we fi- nance all of our activities from the sale of candy and ice cream at the athletic contests. We sponsor six major athletic activ- ities. Our first, a relatively new sport here, is speeclball, Introduced a few years ago, speeclball has grown to be a popular activity. With the coming of winter, we begin our basketball season. An exceptionally popular sport, basketball spurs up much interest in CAA members, Tumbling, everyones favorite, calls for more skill than does any other sport. Our tumbling squad, this year consisting of seventeen members, gave a high school assembly program as a climax of the season. With the close of tumbling season comes volleyball. We like volleyball almost as well as basketball, and we participate with enthusiasm in both. The advent of spring turns our thoughts to track and softball, our twin sports, alternating them each afternoon after school. Throughout the school year, we play such games as ping pong, badminton and shuffleboard, and during the past two years we have had a special short season devoted to them. Though we are an athletic association, our interests are also social. Three major social events color our calendar each year: our picnic, our banquet, and our dance. This year, however, we have had several small parties in addition. Because our diet of athletic and social activities is well balanced, we feel that we are truly carrying out our objectives of athletic sponsorship, true Sportsman- ship and school service.
