1939 CLASS HISTORY XYe entered high school in 1935 as green, but enthusiastic freshmen. The 133 members of the class selected John Flittie, president: Norma Lee, vice- president: Vivian jackson, secretary: Harriet Larson, treasurer: and Margie Mall, social chairman. XYe were well represented in all of the extra-curricular activities beside leading the li. li, S. honor roll. During this year we held two successful class parties. .Xt the beginning of our sophomore year, we elected George Drown, presi- dent: liarry Spillum, vice-president: Yivian jackson, secretary-treasurer: and Norma Lee, social chairman. Many members of the class participated in the operetta, 'fllelinka of .Xstrakhanf and the class organized a sophomore pep squad. XYe also had two class parties this year. .Xs juniors we entered whole-heartedly into the whirl of school activity. Ten junior boys made the squad football team, and one the A basketball. Yirginia Larson won a superior rating in the State Music Contest. Eleven juniors look part in the all-school play, The Melting Pot : and the junior play Anne of Green Gables was one of the most successful plays ever give he1'e. On .Xpril 23 we were hosts to the seniors at the annual junior-senior prom and banquet. The decorating theme carried out was a neptune or deep sea scene. In the spring campaign. Robert Yessey was elected president, and Harry Spillum vice-president of the student body for the coming year. The class officers for this year were George llrown, president: llarry Spillum, vice-president: llarriet Larson. secreta1'y-treasurer: Norma Lee, social chairman. Coming back as seniors in the fall of IQ38, we resolved to make this year the best. llarry Spillum was elected president: Norma Lee, vice-president: llarriet Larson, secretary-treasurer: and Virginia Ford, social chairman. Many senior boys participated in the A squad athletics. Our class was well represented in the three one-act plays given in the fall. Robert Yessey won a superior rating in the district poetry contest. The junior class entertained us at a very enjoyable banquet and dance in the spring. Senior activities in the late spring started with the class play on May 12. Our skip day at Sioux Falls on May 16 followed. liracluation week included the senior sermon on May 21, class night on May 24, and graduation on May 25. The following morning the class breal-:fasted together. ln the afternoon at the general assembly many members of the class bid each other a fond farewell, and wished each other a life as successful and happy as our high school days had been.
