There is a never-ending conflict waged against the sea, wind, and rain that the men of lst Di- vision fight to keep'BRONSTEIN one of the finest looking ships in the fleet. The Deck Ape as he' is called by his shipmates, is the last of the romantic sailors, in that his job is exactly as it was centuries ago. The calls that he passes with his Boatswain's pipe are the same calls that the sailors of old responded tog He is the first man on deck in the morning and the last one to strike below in the evening. He handles the ship's rigging, runs her boats, stands lookout and helm watches, and mans her guns in time of battle. He is as important to the ship as is the sea upon which BRONSTEIN sails.
