7 l Commissioned 15 June 1963. LT fjgj Ben Richard Bronstein, Mc, USNR USS BRONSTEIN QDE-10375 is the first in a new class of Ocean Escorts. She is considerably larger than other Destroyer Escorts, with an overall length of 371 feet and a displacement of 2650 tons. This makes her about the same size as the World War II Destroyers. This is the second U.S. Navy ship to bear the name of LTfjgl Ben Richard Bronstein, MC, USNR, who lost his life in action during World War II onboard the USS JACOB JONES QDD-1305. The first BRONSTEIN fDE-1895 was commissioned in 1943, served the remainder of the war, and was presented to Uruguay in 1952. The mission of BRONSTEIN is twofold: to conduct offensive anti-submarine war- fare, and to escort and screen transoceanic convoys. Her size and armament enables her to operate as part of a group of fighting ships, or to conduct independent opera- tions. The armament on BRONSTEIN includes some of the latest operational Navy weaponery. She carries the ASROC fAnti-Submarine Rocketl weapons system, the Drone Anti-Submarine Helicopter QDASH5, anti-submarine torpedoes, and a 3 inch 50 caliber dual purpose gun battery. The nature of her armament is such that she can make attacks with her weapons while still a considerable distance away from the submarine targets. BRONSTEIN is also equipped with the most up-to-date electronics gearg Her RADAR qRadio Detection and Rangingy and her SONAR qSound Navigation and Rangingp systems represent the latest operational developments, and her communications system includes the newest transmitting and receiving units.
