Text from Pages 1 - 200 of the 1970 volume:

Published by the Senior Class of BROKEN BOW HIGH SCHOOL Broken Bow Nebraska FOREWORD “God pity them both; and pity us all Who vainly the dreams of youth recall For of all sad words of tongue or pen The saddest are these: ’It might have been!’ John Greenleaf Whittier The years after graduation will be the most important ones of our lives. We must set our goals carefully and then strive to attain them. In order to make our youthful dreams become reality, we must work. Our quest to fulfill these dreams will be difficult but not impossible. Maturity and flexibility are the primary elements which will determine our success or failure. The world is ever-changing, and, in order to succeed, we must have the maturity to face it without qualms and the flexibility to change with it. If we hesitate or become complacent, our dreams will shatter, and we will be heard vainly echoing regret that “It might have been!” TABLE OF CONTENTS FOREWORD DEDICATION SENIORS UNDERCLASSMEN ORGANIZATIONS ALMA MATER ADMINISTRATION FACULTY ACTIVITIES VIRGIL KORTB - Asst. Basketball, Asst. Track GARY WRIGHT 7th and 8th Basketball LOUIS STITHEM - Jt. High Football, Track JAMES MILLS - Head Wrestling Cross Country, Asst. Football KENNETH COX - Asst. Wrestling MARK RUSSELL - Head Football, Head Track WILLIAM BLACKBURN - Asst. Jr. High Football, 9th Basketball DEDICATION The 1969-70 Annual Staff dedicates this edition to the entire athletic department. Without our coaches - Mr. Russell, Mr. Stephens, Mr. Mills, Mr. Korte, Mr. Stithem, Mr. Blackburn, Mr. Wright, and Mr. Cox, the teams could not have succeeded as they did. Our football, wrestling, basketball, cross-country, and track teams surpass all other teams. Each team is to be praised for their hard work and glorious victories. The Warrior Staff ALMA MATER ADMINISTRATION OPPORTUNITY IS YOURS There is no security in this world, there is only opportunity. Opportunity is the most important gift your parents, teachers, church and country have to offer you. Opportunity to grow intellectually, to enrich your mind and soul. Opportunity to develop a strong healthy body, magnetic personality and good character that will last for three score and ten years and more. 1 want to challenge each Broken Bow junior and senior high student to work hard and take full advantage of these opportunities every day. Good luck to each of you. Sincerely, MR. WADE SAYS . . . Congratulations to the Annual Staff for your excellent portrayal of school life at Broken Bow. The memories you have captured will long be remembered. Your annual will be the source for untold hours of enjoyment for all. I wish to take this opportunity to wish the Class of 1970 happiness and prosperity in the days to come. May you always look back at your High School with pride. Good Luck and Best Wishes. NAOMI ARMSTRONG - Secretary CLAIR WILLIAMS SCHOOL BOARD A. L. JONES - President ROYCE FERGUSON - Vice President Pausing at the intersection, we see the stop and go lights beaming down on us. These lights are the six people who compose the Board of Education for school district 25. Although little known to most students, the school board is faced with the important tasks of forming school policies, keeping the school provided with necessary equipment and helping the school to run smoothly. We owe our sin-cerest thanks to these people who devote much of their time and energy to improve our school. CHARLES GILES - Treasurer FRED KOTTEMEYER FACULTY MRS. HENDRICKSON Sup'ts. Secretary MRS. ADVENTURES IN BROKEN BOW SCHOOL-LAND Once upon a time in the far off land of B.B. School-land there lived ninety-eight plus one boys and girls who were under the rule of that Great Monarch. King George I. King George, being a busy man, had his able Wizard Kwade watch over these boys and girls. Before long the Wizard decided to change these boys and girls into green freshmen and put them under the guidance of the Navigator (alias Mr. Korte). The Navigator helped the freshmen in building a fine Rocket to the Moon for Homecoming, in the year of 1967. The crew of this fine and worthy jet-rocket, besides the Navigator, consisted of Pilot - PAUL TIERNEY, Co-Pilots - DIEDRE BENDOW-SKY and PAT KNOELL, and the rest of this motley crew - Steward - BRUCE GOVIER and Stewardess - DIANE ELLIS. Then that marvelous man. Wizard Kwade appeared and decided it was time for these wee freshmen to become a little wiser, so he changed them into Sophomores with these magical words, Lock all the windows. Close all doors, Heaven forbid, Here come the Sophomores! And as Sophomores, they began a new adventure in the country of B.B. School-land under the guidance of Foxy-Coxy (otherwise known as Mr. Cox), and the rest of the barnyard crew - GIRAFFE EVANS, BENJY MINK”, BRUCE CROWFOOT , HENNY BRAKEMAN, SHERMAN CARR DINAL , and MARGARET KLEEB. Wizard Kwade stepped into the picture again, and decided to send these Sophomores on a new adventure - thus began uner cuner, make uni, Juniors - and placed them under the hand of Big Chief How, Son-of-Han and his fellow chiefs: SHERMAN RUNNING CARR, BRUCE GO-VIER-DA-HILL, and squaw, MARY LITTLE-SHRUB. CRYSTAL COOKS (LEY), and the ruling elders of the tribe. JAN-is-ALBINO, LINDA GROUSE, DIEDRE BEND-FLYING-IN-DA-SKY, DENNY BRAKE-UNI-MAN, GENE-AJ-GILES with the help of the Big Chief these Juniors had 'um heap big war dance (Prom). Once again Wizard Kwade stepped in and put his magic to work with these words, As freshmen they were a little green; As sophomores even a little mean; As Juniors they were wise for sure; Now change them into Big Seniors. As Seniors, these boys and girls spirited their last moments in B.B. School-land, Wizard Kwade himself decided to watch over them and chose MIKE WILKERSON, MARY WIEBUSCH, BRUCE KOEFOOT, and PATTY ANDERSEN as his assistant sorcerers, and set forth to do all kinds of magic. Their minds were filled with lore, and when the time was just right that great King, George I, put out as decree throughout B.B. School-land that these ninety-nine boys and girls were ready to leave the land and set forth upon their own adventures. Then Wizard Kwade, with wand in hand, place these Seniors of 1970 in caps and gowns and put them on their way, after saying their fond farewell to their beloved country of B.B. School-land.
