Senior Class Journey Ends ( 1940 - 1951 ) Our deeds still travel with us from afar And what we have been make us what we are —George Elliot In one hand we hold our diploma, a valuable piece to have on the road of life. In the other hand we hold the rememberances of our senior class, for we are all parting to go our separate ways into the world. It is a moment we will never forget, for really, we have enjoyed those days of toil and fun. But we must think of the bright days ahead of us. We remember entering the first grade. There were nine little tots: Mar¬ garet and Mildred Renalds, Barbara Phillips, Florence Harpine, J.D. Lantz, John Wagner, Pearl Showalter, Mary Davis Kline, and Stanley Turner. Also, all through the years in the grades, many students became members of our class. Our freshman year was very exciting and joyful, even though we had to work hard. We had many students joining our class this year. They were: Stanley Roller, from Tenth Legion; Alvin Strickler, from Timberville; Bill Neff. Frances Armentrout. Joan Skidmore, Patsy Smucker, and Walter Carr, all from Lacy Springs; Xie Cook, from Tennessee; Irene Evans and Nancy May, from Orebaugh; Bonnie Fawley, from Genoa; Lois Bare and Bevelyn Fulk, from Fulks Run; Benny Runion, Bobby Sager, Genevieve Runion, Richard Litten, and Arlene Wittig, from Cootes Store; Pauline Smith, from Maryland, and also joining our class this year was Brisco Dellinger. In our sophomore year we were more acquainted and we took part in the various activities such as: band, glee club, basketball, baseball, and track. Mrs. Fahrney was our home-room teacher and we led in the different campaigns. The class consisted of 54 brilliant boys and girls. Those joining us this year were Fvelvn Derrow, Hoyt Riddle, Daniel Cline, and Donnie Moomaw. Becoming juniors, it seemed more like school to us. With Miss Lester as advisor and Margaret Renalds as assistant, we presented the junior play, “Cradle Troubador”, which was a big success. We also gave the seniors a fine banquet. The students making an addition to our class this year were: Gay Hottinger. lean Mav, Darlene Thomas, Lowell Ritchie, Mary Jane Turner, and Catherine Dove, from Bergton. And also, joining our class were, Donnie Turner, Bobbv Rhodes, and Lawrence Roller. At last we are what we have waited so long to be, seniors ! Our home-room teacher is Mr. Whitmore, and our class officers are; J.D. Lantz, President: Stanley Turner, Vice-President; Patsy Smucker, Secretary; and Donnie Turner, T reasurer. The first big event of the year was the trip to Charlottesville for the George Washington vs. University of Virginia football game. Our chaperons were Mrs. Fahrney and Mr. Whitmore. As seniors, we publish, bi-weekly, a newspaper known as “The Communi-K.” The senior play entitled, “People Are Funny” was presented on March 9. We also are looking forward to the Junior-Senior banquet, class day, getting our class rings, and commencement. Our new additions this vear are Betty 1 ou Cave, Jean and Jane Waggoner, Juanita Murray, and Kenneth Knicely. These additions brought the total number of our class to 62. We wish to thank the principal, teachers, parents and friends who have had the patience in helping us through-out our years at good old B.H.S. Betty Jo Southerly Barbara Phillips
