To raise money for our Washingfon frip nexf year we have sold pencils, fablefs and Chrisfmas cards, as well as presenting a fhree-acf mysfery-comedy enfifled 'The Blaclc Derby. We also sponsored fhe annual Junior Dance. Our non-profif-malcing acfivifies included a franlcforf roasf in fhe fall, a sleighride in February. and a spring picnic. Victor Christopher was elected President: Cyrus Fralrer, Vice- Presidentg Dorothy Syzdelc, Secretary: and Helen Weiderman, Treasurer. lnitiations were carried out early in the term with the Freshmen as the victims ot upper classmen. They only bide their time until they have their opportunity to administer to Freshmen ot the tuture. During the Fall term Christmas cards, stationery and Jello was sold by the class members. On March l2th the Freshmen held a successtul Amateur Night and had a large audience. Sprague Jennings, a tavorite with local audiences, was engaged to be Master ot Ceremonies. and Peter Van Peters dance orchestra entertained betore the program and played tor dancing afterwards. The winner ot the tirst prize was Jessiel Crepeau ot second prize Marie Brown. and tniro Marjorie Vezfna. The club has held a meeting on the second or third Tuesday ot each month. Atter the January exams, the members ot the French II class were initiated into the club. The most important event in our program was the French Casino. a social and financial success, which included a style show, floor show and dancing. LATIN CLUB The Lae+i l.a+ini co'mposed of members of Lafin ll and Lafin Ill classes was formed in fhe fall of I936 with ihe following officers: Consul, Sfuarf Finch: Quaesfor. Muriel Coloneyz Scriba, Edy+he Underwood: Nunfius, Millicenf Cruihers. Meefings were held once a month in the High School where a miniafure Roman house was consfrucied and Lafin games and songs were enjoyed. During the year a new precedent has'been established in changing the type ot publication trom the tormer magazine to the newspaper style. To improve their iournalism the Broadalbanian statt ioined the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the Capitol District Press Association. Five members ot the statt with the advisers attended the spring conven- t'on of the latter organization in Hudson April 24. Statt members are lected from the students ot the High School who have shown inte'est and ability in newspaper work. Cub classes are sponsored weelrly tor new reporters desirous ot acquiring the technique ot writing news stories and assembling the paper. The chorus presenfed a musical comedy in The High School Audiforium, Friday evening, under fhe direction of Mrs. Florence Jewell Jerlords. The program opened wi'rh fhree ensemble numbers, Coun+ry Gardens, March of fhe Peers and 'On lhe Road fo Mandalay. The firsf par? of fhe program colsed wifh a solo, l Love Life. by Elwood Eafon. The second par? consisred of a one-acl opererfa enfifled The Treasure Chest in which gypsies and pirafes abunded. The 'rhird and closing par? of 'rhe program was a schoolroom farce. The 'reacher was Miss Be++ina Breen who was in Charge of fiffeen unruly pupils. Their antics furnished pleniy of amusemenf and broughf fhe program +o a happy ending.
