Hrstor of the Class of 1934 In September I93O there appeared rn what rs used as the Freshman room about thrrty immature gawky trtterrng objects of humanrty known as Fresh men After becomlng somewhat acclrmated to the terrors of hrgh school there arose on our strll turbu lent horrzon another cloud rnrtratron After antrcr patrng unknown horrors to our surprrse the rules lard down for us were not very rrgrd although they were nevertheless aggravatmv We chose as leaders for the vear Larry Mrlls Roger Lrngenfelter Kathleen Swears and Norma Phrllrps as presrdent vrce presrdent secretary and treasurer respectrvely Upon Mrss Hager s head there fell the grgantlc task of steermg us through our borsterous career whrch she lost no time rn dorng for soon several projects were under way for earnmg money In Aprrl of that year we held a very successful dance the proceeds from whrch w ent to swell the funds for our Washrngton trrp Our recreatronal actlvrtres that year consrsted of a slergh rrde and ln the sprrng a prcnlc held at Mrss Suxts camp with the Sophomores at Caroga Lake and provrded for by Mrss Hager and Mrss Surts who undoubtedly notrcmv our wan pale faces decrclecl that we needed an outmg after a strenous wrnter of study The next September we agam arrrvecl at school but thrs time how drfferently as worldly Sopho mores wrth not a srgn of cowardly submrssron toward our superiors Instead of lnrtlatron thrs year our boisterous spxrrts were subdued by the rntrlcacres of Geometry and Caesar s adventures rn Gaul Durant' our second semester a dance and a food ale were held both of w hrch were great successes Our offrcers for thrs year were Harold Eaton George Kross Sonya Srrotlck and Carol lnraker As unrors we were permrtted to put on a play entrtled dreasure larm lwo results were ob tamed from thrs 1 large profrt was realwed for our Washrngton fund and great dramatrc talent was drs covered whrch hrtherto had lam dormant I I6 Later rn the year we held a dance and card party at whrch a floor show was glven by several of the more musrcal members of the class lhrs same sprung we held an enyoyable affair rn the form of a prcmc at lqmchs camp on Maxon mountam fAmong other amusements photography w as rndulged nr and several prctures were taken whrch should be kept on record to show the purely hrgh minded and rntellectual character of some of our members Elma Frnch Andre Beletsky Geneva White and Elrzabeth Bartlett Uurded us successfully through thrs year September agam and Senrorsl Could rt be posslble that we humble Freshmen of four years ago were now wrse supercrllrous haughty Seniors? We had attarned the Golden Ave of Hrgh School We elected as our offrcers Sonya Srrotrck George lxross Harold Eaton and Paulme Anderson A great deal of sport was provxded by the Fresh men whom we rnrtrated forgetful of the fact that three years before we had been m the same humrlratrng posrtron we gleefully made them perform seemrngly rmpossrble feats Proceeds obtarned from a dance and a play Wrld C-mger placed us strll nearer to that Mecca of our dreams Washlngton Then came the problem of selectmg our Senior rm s Salesmen appeared and whole perlods were spent down rn the office or laboratory blrssfully try mfr on and debatrnv over varrous rrn s Frnally one was chosen and soon the whole student body was partrally blmded by glrtterrng and flashmv rrngs upon Senror frngers Came Ea ter and Vfashrnvtonl lihose who have never taken thrs trrp cannot know the ecstasy of vrew rn perhaps for the hrst trme the great dome of the Capitol lighted wrth a thousand lrghts of meetln new frrends of rndulvrng rn all sorts of new exper rences uch as racrng recklessly up and down escala to dmrn rn automats and clrmbrng the Washrrrgtor Monument What tremors of patrrotrsm and excrte ment we experrenced when we saw Mrs Roosevelt at , . v Q - s s ' .
