Students Take Charge Performances Excite As the 1987-88 school year opened many hopeful actors found themselves au- ditioning for the 1987 One Acts, presented October 6-7 in three exhilerating performances. The Acts, Present Tense , directed by Deron Overpeck, senior, and Emil Klein, junior; Advice to the Players . Heather O ' Sulli- van and Caitlin O ' Hara, sen- iors; Cinderella Wore Com- bat Boots , John Bennett and Elizabeth San Miguel, seniors, were fondly appreci- ated by B.R. audiences. Meanwhile, The Off Broad Ripple Company (OBRC) was coming on strong as they performed mime, fa- bles, and other entertaining and amusing skits. OBRC performed in nurs- ing homes, schools, and more. On the B.R. stage Fri- day, May 13 1988, (JBRC gave their annual show, An Evening With The Off Broad Ripple Company. Marianne Laughlin Russ Johnson, senior, explains life to the mentally stressed John Freeman, freshman, in Present Tense. Last May, Ripples ' 87 cele- brated their 50th anniversary. The cast of Charlie You Devil brought in the Best Act award. Steve Flora won best actor for his role as Charlie Down and best male singer for his perfor- mance of Billy Joel ' s She ' s Got a Way About Her. That devil, Russ Johnson, won best cameo appearance. Forest Grove enjoyed great success with Shannon Stone as best ac- tress and Sue Phelps as best supporting actress; it also won for best danceline. Black on White held awards for best chorus, best fe- male vocalist and best support- ing actor. With Abe Benrubi as master of ceremonies, Ripples ' 87 paved the way for another half century of superb student-writ- ten entertainment. Tracy Pfingston Catlin OHara and Elizabeth San Mi- guel, juniors, work diligently to ready for the performance. The chorus of Black On White capti vites the attention of the audience. Ripples 15
