Village Vibes Broad Ripple High School is diverse in several ways — in its students, its faculty, and, espe daily, in its surroundings — Broad Ripple Village. BRHS is one of the few high schools in Indianapolis located in such a thriving business community. And this commu- nity has a variety to offer. The Village is like a city con- densed into a small area. It ' s a city within a city. It has every thing from restaurants to gift- shops to its own grocery store. It also has a fire station, a park, and a library. But the Village also offers the more out-of-the-ordinary places, such as a restaurant which specializes in Indian cui- sine, a used record store, and a shop specializing in customized clothing. Jeff Berman, owner of Baz- beaux Pizza, said that the Vil- lage has a slower pace com- pared to other areas of Indianapolis. He also said, There ' s a constant flow of youth, which keeps it alive. The Village is a hang-out for many BR students. According M. Nicolini to Kali Johnson, senior, one of her favorite places to hang out at is Cafe Espresso, a restau rant that caters to the serious coffee drinker. But the Village also serves as an ideal place of employment for many BR stu- dents. According to Wallace Mac- Arthur, sales person at The Vil- lage Peddlars, the Village is friendlier than other areas. We get a lot of repeat business. In summing up the Village, Judy Cassell, senior, said, You ' ve got everything in Rip- V« pie. All kinds of people. Note V » just the yups or the dinks or thex J preps or the punks; but all of ; ' em! David Black well Fire engine 32 rolls out of the Village fire station to fight flames once again. Broad Ripple Vil- lage has an intimate atmosphere, very ar- tistic. It ' s the melt- ing pot of Indiana- polis. — Debra Berman Store owner Verve Heather O ' Sullivan, senior, and Mer- edith Emmons, junior, show their spirit during the annual Homecoming Parade, which passes through the Village. Face to face, ducks are a common sight in Broad Ripple Village.
