The Iranians finally released rhe hosrages, while rhe Republicans gained conrrol of rhe senare for rhe firsr rime in 25 years. America was ready for a fresh srarr in rhe 1980 ' s. The mosr imporranr evenr of rhe year was clearly rhe rerurn of rhe 52 American hosrages held in rhe American embassy in Tehran. The hosrages lefr Tehran ar 12:45 easrem rime, January 20, less rhan one hour afrer Jimmy Carrer ' s rerm as Presidenr had expired. Even so, Mr. Carrer was recognized as responsible for rhe release of rhe hosrages. Glittering entertainment mesmerizes Ripplires Differenr srrokes for differenr folks . . . This was o good description of whor Ripplires did in rheir spore rime. Despire rhe common inreresr of school, Ripplires monoged ro moinroin rheir individually by doing such ocriviries as orrending or ploying boskerboll, rhe circus or rock concerrs Excirmenr of srunrs and fears, beauriful cosrumes, performing animals, and of course rhe clowns mesmerized Ripplires who wenr ro rhe circus. These srudenrs found Themselves sruffing rheir faces wirh corron-candy and spending money on colorful balloons. The faculry members of B.fV joined in rhe fun when one of Indianapolis ' radio srarions, Q°5, challenged Ripple ro a friendly game of baskerball. Some of rhe players included Don Jumpshor Glenn, BTV principal, and Joyce Supersrar Seigers, rhe girls gym reacher. Droad Ripple vicroriously won 7977. Sranding in long lines for hours on end was a common scene for many Ripplires. Concerr-goers arrended performances such as Chuck Mangione, rhe Commodores, and rhe Doobie Drorhers.
