But quickly, let me tell you about it. I went back to Britton, our old home town, for my vacation. As I neared Britton, population 20,000, I noticed a huge hamburger joint. I stopped to get something to eat and inquire if any of our old friends were still in Britton. To my surprise I learned that Jhn Clement was the owner. While I enjoyed my hamburger and visited with Jim, he told me Melvin Sanch was married to Barbara Lutton and they were doing fine on their 'bakers dozen'. Jim also told me that Fred Cross was a top scientist in nuclear physics. He discovered our latest element known as orossium. I also heard that Anna Downing finally married Eddie. They are living in the richest section of Royal Oak, Michigan. As I drove on into the City of Britton I noticed a huge sign announcing 'Youmglove Mens' Storen. I went inside to investigate and discovered that this was the Robert Younglove of our graduating class. He told me that Frank Vallie was a private detective in Las Vegas and Lowell Bush was the owner of the Detroit Tigers. Another successful classmate, Bonnie Naugle, owns the Britton Tnnes. I said good-by to Robert and started to take a walk down the main drag when who should I see but Larry Kancus selling newspapers. I bought one of Larry's papers and read that Ronald Haas was making 'gobs of money' as Lord Binninghmm. Later that day, while trying to locate a beauty salon in the telephone directory, I noticed an advertisement for Cline's Beauty Shop. To satisfy my curiosity I hurried right over. Sure enough it was owned and operated by Ginger Cline. Jeanette Stew- low came in and she said that she had married Dean Spohr and had two lovely children. She also told me that Dean Craig was manufacturer of a new Ry-Krisp and was running a reducing home for fat people. Karen Maschino is married and living a happy life punctuated by three lively children. When I returned to my hotel for the evening I could truthfully say I was tired but happy, and filled with gossip. I just had to write you all the news of our old classmates at Britton. Hope the hospital rou- tines at Walter Reed 1sn't as bad as it is here. , Love and stuff, Shirley BO!'t91. That feared initiation came- The Sophs were heartless in their game. The winter passed, next thing we knew, Huge stacks of dishes we must do-- The All School Banquet ts the date 5 We had no courage to debate. But all to fast one year had gone. Dur Sophomore year we launched upon. We thought of work that must be done Before diplomas could be won, But we'd have parties, fun galore, And who oould ask for any more? When we approached our junior year, All sixteen students lingered near. To climb the ladder step by step To reach the goal which we had set. And as we gave our three-act play, We hoped the folks felt very gay. Our junior Prom, it was the best Of all our parties--all the rest! And so again in fifty-two Our same old class began anew. To reach for goals which we had set, And as we struggled step by step. Our teachers were the very best. Don't you remember every test? They were prepared to point the way Which we must take tozeach that day. And now before we bid adieu, We say, dear teachers, thanks to you. 'I6 Class Song Our school-days now are past and gone, And yet we fondly linger hereg For sweet each joy that we have known: 'Tis sad to part from comrades dear. The world before us brightly lies, Yet here fond mem'ry loves to dwellg With saddened hearts and dewy eyes We bid to all a sweet farewell! Farewell! Farewell! ' We bid to all a sweet farewell! Long will our hearts recall each joy That bound us in sweet friendship here For time can never more destroy The light of mem'ry burning clear. Of other scenes and other cares Our lips must now their story tellg Each heart your tender mem'ry shares, Teachers and comrades, new farewell! Farewell! Farewell! Teachers and co rades, new farewell! Class Motto: Ldfe is what you make it. Class Colors: Persian red and silver grey Class Flower: White Rose. 17 Class History The fall of 1949 found eighteen innocent and unsuspecting Fresh- men entering Britton High School. Full of fun and merriment, and ready to do most anything, we thought ourselves quite grown-up. However, Mr. Beale, our Superintendent, took a hand in setting things aright. Once put in our place, we settled down to business, and selected our class officers as follows: president, Larry Kanousg vice-president, Fred Crossg secretary, Ginger Crutchfield, and treasurer, Karen Maschino. we chose Mr. Mackey as our class advisor. The dreadful thing that happens to every Freshman finally came, the initiation. We could hard- ly wait till the next year to retaliate. Next the Scphomores put on the All-School-Banquet and gave us the honor of cleaning up. It act- ually was fun though. We came back the next year a little older and a little wiser. However we had lost five of our classmates: Laura Anspack, Marjorie Baker, Jerry Brown, Wesley Exelby, and John Marion. we gained one, Ronald Haas. Our retaliation came when we initiated the Freshmen. Later we sponsored the All-School-Banquet under the supervision of Mr. Mackey our advisor. As class officers we selected the following: president, Lowell Bushg vice president, Melvin Sanchg secretaries, Ginger Crutch- field and Karen Maschinog and treasurer, Fred Cross. In our Junior year we settled down to business, for we had a long way to go before our Senior trip could be realized. We chose Mr. Lower as our class advisor. Four new members joined us: Dean Craig, Jeanette Stewlow, Bonnie -Lou Naugle and Mary Rose. Our class officers were president, Bonnie Lou Naugleg vice president, Larry Kanousp secretary, Jeanette Stewlowg and treasurer, Melvin Sanch. In order to raise money we had various raffles and bake sales. Our Junior Play was a success, as was also our Junior Prom, Junior-Senior Banquet, and our Talent ShOW e Then the great year, so long looked forward to, arrived. We had risen to the top. As Seniors we had a glorious year under the super- vision of Mr. Hcwson. Our class officers were: president, Larry Kanous vice president, Fred Cross, secretary, Jeanette Stewlow, and treasurer Melvin Sanch. we immediately plunged into our money-making affairs. We raffled off two turkeys and two fruit baskets, and sold magazine sub- scriptions, cards, and stationery. There never seemed to be enough time, but of course our motto was nLife is what you make itn. Our colors were Persian red and silver grey, and our flower, a white rose. The trip to New York was one that will never be forgotten, and we were back in time for baccalaureate service which was held on May 24. Class night was May 26 and cam encement exercises were held May 28, Our whole high school life was a success. The only thing that seemed to fail was our complaint against too much homework. 18 , ,X , M x 'ig Q 3 'Y H . ,QA T f 6 -1 A di' 9 A -dw --8 L a?
