I Dedication With the bicentennial year upon us, we the class of nineteen hundred and seventy-six would like to honor a man who is welldeserving for his many accomplishments and achievements in our schools and in the town of Bristol. His quality of devotion is outstanding. As teacher and administrator for thirty-seven years in the Bristol School Department he has touched most youth of the town. As an active citizen and lifetime resident, he is well-known and liked throughout the community. For all the people of Bristol whose lives you have touched, we dedicate the nineteen hundred and seventy-six Green and White yearbook to you, Mr. Anthony E. Agatiello. Thank you. Mr. Anthony E. Agatiello 5 Table of Contents I. Administration and Faculty II. Underclassmen III. Organizations IV. Sports V. Seniors Vi Advertisements 8 14 15 They ask me why I teach. And I reply, “Where could I find more splendid company? “There sits a statesman. Strong, unbiased, hopeful. And close by sits a jurist. With aims and judgments wise. And there a doctor Whose quick steady hand Can mend a bone. Or stem the lifeblood's flow. A builder sits beside him — Upward rise The arches of a church he builds, wherein That minister and these helpful laymen. Turn thoughts and hearts toward Kingdom goals. “And all about This choicest gathering Of merchants, teachers, technicians. Laborers, men Who work and vote and build And plan and pray Into a great tomorrow And I say, “I may not see the church. Or hear the word, Or enjoy the things their hands will build — I may not use the tools Or know the work they all have done. And yet — may. Then later I can say, “I knew the lad . . . “And he was strong. And fine, always kind, sometimes proud. Bright, earnest, yet full of fun! Always facing the rising sun! “I knew him once. But then he was a high school student They ask me why I teach, and I reply, “ Where could I find more splendid company?“ FHK ADMIN IS TRA TION AND FACULTY 17 Superintendent It is with great pleasure that I extend the greetings and congratulations of the Office of the Superintendent to the members of the Class of 1976 — the Bicentennial Class. I wish for you much happiness and good health. As graduates of Bristol High, whether you plan to go on to further formal education or pursue a career, I urge you to either become active in political life or become involved in political affairs by running for some office. It is imperative that as high school graduates, you take a role and be interested in local government. You are needed to assist in the main decisions which must be made to carry on good government. Many hours of dedication toward your goals and those of society must be used and are needed. Good government can only be obtained in your support of candidates who are interested in doing for the greatest number the greatest amount of good. Dr. Edward P. Travers Assistant Superintendent To the Class of 76” Your generation is faced with perhaps the greatest challenge of any generation in the past 100 years, namely, conservation of energy and ecology. The future of life on earth, as we know it, might well depend upon your ability to successfully meet this challenge and develop resolutions. I hope that the education you have received in the Bristol Public Schools has prepared you satisfactorily to meet this challenge. Best wishes for success and happiness. Ennis J. Bisbano School Committee L to R J Biancuzzo, R. Eaton, F. Ferris, E. Oliver, J Vcnto, T Barr. F. Canario Principal To the Class of ‘‘76 My warmest congratulations to all of you. Anthony P. lasiello Dean of Students Dean of Student Activities To the Class of 76” Your years at Bristol High have been filled with many experiences — some joyous — some sorrowful. You arc now prepared to integrate these learning experiences to meet the challenges of the future. It is my hope that the set of values you have formed with the help of your teachers, families, and peers, will give substance to your life. I wish you success in your career aspirations and continued growth and happiness in your personal development. Santa W. Matronc To the Class of 76” It is said that Education is the sum total of a person’s experiences.” I wish that all your experiences in the form of Academics, Athletics and Social Events while at Bristol High School will serve to further contribute to your educational future. My sincere good wishes for success to all. Vincent J. Santo Assistant Principal To the Class of 76” I would ask you to reflect on the many benefits which have been bestowed upon you by your parents, teachers, friends and the community in order that you might have some feelings of gratitude and appreciation. It is a pleasure to extend to you my sincerest best wishes for your success. Ilidio Contente 21 Director of Curriculum To the Class of 76” Best wishes and continued success to the entire Class of 1976. Lawrence A. Papi To the Class of 76” We have attempted to help you know yourself and influence you in positive ways. Be sure that other associations can do the same. Choose your partner carefully. Louis I. Sylvia Manager of Plant and Facilities Director of Special Services To the Class of 76” There is nothing more important to a young man or woman than finding the answer to the question: What am I going to make of my life? The answer is simple — Every young person who seeks and hopes for the best in life must have a vision, make a design and pursue a purpose. These requirements are beyond dispute, and form the dynamics of achievement. Carpe diem! Anthony E. Agatiello 22 Guidance Department McDermott Department Coordinator: Mr J. Now that we’re older, we wish to be young again. While girls are still called girls, Boys are now guys. We used to call ourselves kids. Now all of a sudden we’re people. We’re too old for adolescence. Too young for adulthood. We glimpse back at life, sentimentally, all 18 years of it. And we feel old. We glimpse ahead at life so hopefully all future years of it. And we now feel so young. We’ve lived with youth for what seems forever. Attached to youth, we’re afraid to kick it into memory. SENIORS 139 Class History We entered Bristol High School as energetic eighth graders. This bicentennial class was brought together under the direction of our advisor, Mrs. Mary Linda Soderlund. and four enthusiastic class officers. President, Darryl Lanoue, Vice President, Mark Tabor, Secretary, Hilary Jacobs, and Treasurer, Richard Cirillo. We ended our eighth grade year appropriately with the dance Celebrate.” In our Freshman year our dynamic spirit exploded with the presentation of our Homecoming float. Part of our eagerness could be attributed to the election of our officers. President, Elizabeth Du Ponte, Vice President. Christine Mello, Secretary, Hilary Jacobs, and Treasurer, Richard Cirillo. With their guidance a very profitable raffle was organized. As we danced to Imagine,” our Freshman Frolic theme song, we looked toward our future at Bristol High School. Our Sophomore year was headed by class officers. President, Sharon Terra, Vice President, Steven Armillotto, Secretary, Hilary Jacobs, and Treasurer, Richard Cirillo. The year was marked by our first car wash, a pot luck supper, another float, and several mixers. This exciting year was climaxed with our Sophomore Hop, Sunshine.” Our drive to excel in our Junior year was clearly defined by our outstanding Homecoming float. Shortly after we received one of our most treasured possessions, our high school rings. Before we knew it, the holidays were upon us and we found ourselves co-sponsoring the Christmas Dance which was a huge success. The months that followed were full of hard work as we prepared for our Junior Prom at the Coachmen. There we were greeted by class officers. President, Nicholas Puniello. Vice President, Christine Mello, Secretary, Hilary Jacobs, and Treasurer, Richard Cirillo. Portrayed by our theme song, Our Day Will Come,” we were looking forward to our Senior year with mixed emotions. Here it is graduation week and we find ourselves reflecting on our school experiences. This past year has been filled with studies, activities and anxieties, through all of which we still managed to have fun. We look back on many memorable times such as Homecoming, Greaser Day, and closing senior events, all of which were planned by our class officers. President. Nicholas Puniello, Vice President, Christine Mello, Secretary, Hilary Jacobs and Treasurer, Richard Cirillo. Our Senior Reception, held at the Chateau de Ville, was an evening enjoyed by all. Soon we found ourselves seated at the Class Banquet receiving our precious Yearbooks. With graduation upon us, we, the Class of nineteen hundred and seventy-six, find ourselves leaving Bristol High School somewhat reluctantly but ready to accept new challenges with the bicentennial spirit — Independence now and Independence forever. ao 143 146 147 “Our Day Will Come ” BRISTOL HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR PROM 197 5 148 t BRISTOL HIGH SCHOOL Bristol, Rhode Island Class of 1976 JUNIOR PROM THE COACHMEN Main Road Tiverton, R. Mr. lasiello’s support throughout the school year cannot go unnoticed. Mr. Walsh was extremely helpful with subscriptions and pictures, and gave us much moral support. The Bristol Phoenix” staff was cooperative in furnishing us with pictures for last minute deadlines. Mr. Raiola is a person for whom words cannot describe. Without his constant prodding this outstanding yearbook may never have been finished. Mr. Raiola, the nineteen hundred and seventy-six yearbook staff salutes you! Mr. and Mrs. Correia deserve a very special thanks for putting up with the constant chaos, the clutter in their living room, and answering the ever ringing doorbell and phone, with undying patience. The staff will never forget the times we spent at the Correia’s putting together this yearbook. Thanks for the good times! In Memoriam MR. JAMES R. GROMLINS Teacher and Friend 255 Alma Mater We praise our Alma Mater, Her spirit we shall keep, Of honesty, obedience, and loyalty so deep. God bless our own dear High School And keep her safe from wrong While we who love her memory lift up our voice in song. We learn from her to cherish Those ideals that we won. And ne'er to leave unfinished The work we’ve once begun While trying hard to master The tasks we daily do, And now to Bristol High School, We’ll ever more be true. So here’s to Alma Mater, On thee we praise bestow For all thy kind endeavors Our intellect to grow, While we will e’er remember as in those days of vore. We’ll pledge a deep devotion to thee for evermore.
