Greetings From John L. Burke Bristol Senior High School Principal PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE TO THE CLASS OF 1964 I would like to take the liberty to repeat a thought which has been expressed to a previous class because it is most important to you at this time. This is the period in your life when certain characteristics and ideas are being formulated which will have a direct bearing on your future. The thought is that there is an ever increasing tendency among youth and adults to measure service to others by what might be the personal gain. This you have seen manifested in the all too prevalent attitude of “What do I get out of it?” I would admonish you to be on your guard in this respect so that you and the other members of your community are always willing to give some time in the interest of community welfare. If you do this, and try to influence others to do the same, then my wish for your future happiness and success will have a better chance of fulfilment. John L. Burke Principal 4 Greetings From Michael Securo Bristol Senior High School Vice Principal TO THE CLASS OF 1964 After many happy years together you are leaving the Bristol schools, each to follow your chosen paths with abundant hopes for success. Along the way you will find few paths free from obstructions. However your progress will be less difficult if you carry with you a firm distinction between right and wrong in your relation with' the people you meet. Believe everyone good until they are proven bad, and then hope that there may be an error in the testimony. This philosophy may not help you become wealthy, but it will help you understand your neighbors; it will help you make friends; it will help you to avoid hatred; and it will build character. If you achieve this, then I’m sure that success and happiness will be your just reward. Michael Securo Assistant Principal Administration EDWARD J. FITZGERALD Superintendent of Schools 6 E. DORIS BULLOCK Dean of Girls MICHAEL SECURO Vice Principal Dean of Boys Guidance Department TO THE CLASS OF 1964: We in the Guidance Department have enjoyed our contacts with each of you during your high school days, and the opportunities we have had to assist you with your personal problems as well as your educational and vocational plans. The Billis Laundry, is not responsible, for minor burns and tears. “I’m going to wash that man right out of my hair and send him on his way!” Job well done! Class History September 6, 1981—the Twentieth Anniversary of our memorable entrance into Bristol Senior High School. What a day that was! New friends, new teachers and confusion about one-way stairs. This was all part of our first day in Senior High School and the beginning of many new careers. How well we recall our first Halloween Party, the Christmas and Valentines Dances, and our much dreaded midyear exams. The depression of mid-year exams was soon replaced by our first class election. The success of our Sophomore Hop that year was attributed to the plans and preparations of our officers and committee. Soon we were juniors, looking down upon the new-comers. Were wre ever as small as they? In November everyone had eagerly been awaiting the elections of junior class officers and before we realized it the day for nominations was upon us. The officers were elected and arrangements for our featured event of the year, the Junior Prom, were now being discussed. Who was going with whom? What color and style of gown were the girls going to wear and which girl would be chosen queen? These questions created an atmosphere of excitement among all. September 4, 1963—two years had already passed and we now reigned as glorious seniors. A feeling of pride and dignity captivated every student as we filed into the Auditorium for the First-Day-of-School Assembly. Very quickly days slipped by and finally we were officially honored as seniors. Then, that special day in November came and with it our class rings. We made very sure that everyone, especially the underclassmen, saw them. Suddenly we realized that our years at Colt were coming to an end and each major event would be our last. Class pictures and operetta passed. All too quickly the class banquet, Class Day Exercises, the Senior Reception and graduation were planned. The festivities of graduation were anxiously awaited by all, yet the class of 1964 could not dispell its sadness about leaving Colt. The sheltered days of youth were no longer. In 1961 we were one group; now, in 1981, we are a part of many—each going his own different way. 56 BRISTOL HluH SClftLBl Juniors COLLEGE PREPARATORY Row 1, left to right: D. Gardner, S. Miller, J. Thus, it attempts to achieve one of the fundamental purposes of American schools: citizenship education. At Bristol Senior High School, the Student Council consists of fifteen members—four sophomores, five juniors, and six seniors. Each member has a special responsibility to himself and to the school; he must know the purposes of the council, and be willing, and dedicated in meeting his obligations. He must encourage school activities, and should set a good example through courtesy and service. In general, the Student Council can be of service to the school, the student body and the community. This year, under the direction of their moderator, Mr. Vincent Leahy, the council strove to solve one of the major problems which sometimes arises at Bristol High— that of the election of major school officers. The Council itself has devised a new system for electing members with the hope that other school organizations might follow its example and reorganize better election procedures. The Council may also serve as a clearing house for most school activities. It has undertaken the sale of candy at lunch, basketball and football games, and the re- sponsibility of running most school social functions. Through the Halloween dances, Holly Hop, Saint Patrick dances, and weekly sock hops, the council has tried to bring the students together in an informal manner. Perhaps, the main objection of the Student Council this year was to give the student body a larger share in the management of school activities. In an effort to unite the council and student body, it has held elections for representatives from each home room to work in conjunction with the Council members to make preparation for all the dances of the school year. By being a member of the Student Council, each student has gained invaluable experience and training for leadership in the world of tomorrow. Through the newly established practice of having each council member conduct the School Assembly programs, the members gained the confidence and experience of addressing the student body. They have the opportunity of meeting nationally known talent which have been carefully selected by the Student Council to appear at the school assembly. Furthermore, the council members have learned to meet other students with ease and exchange ideas maturely with the Student Councils of other schools through the various conventions held in the-state. Thus, from their membership to the Student Council, the students have acquired a sense of personal satisfaction and accomplishment. In return, the Student Council senes as a forum for the expression of student opinion. 67 Colt Band First row: P. Topazio, N. Russo, J. Sousa, A. Brito, D. Remington, E. Pacheco, S. Morris, E.
