Wilson, J. Randolph, R Burrow. J. Kellar, T. Cummins. In 1919, J. B. Masters, the principal of Central High School in Omaha, Nebraska, proposed the idea of a National Honor Society. This idea was supported by Edward Pyearson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who became the father and founder of the Society. In 1921 it was formally established, with prospective members being judged from the four qualifications of the Society: Scholarship, Character, Leadership, and Service. Though hard guidelines to live up to, the Brinkley chapter manages to get involved in many community activities and live up to the other qualifications. In the words of Ms. Mitchell, adviser for the NHS, This Society really helps members have high goals for themselves and to maintain good citizenship. — Joanna Repass New NHS members pledging in.
