we Mfzife anal guicle Aubrey D. Donley Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Helen Yawman With his ever-expanding, ever- changing staff of teachers, high school, grade school, office and janitorial staff' about him, Super- intendent of Brighton Schools, Aubrey D. Donley, commandeers from the head of the family table. He is the good father. Mainte- nance of both red schools, includ- ing correspondence, expenditures, supplies, and educational policies, come under Mr. Donley's guiding hand, and he wields his duties with foresight and wisdom. Mr. Donley has belonged to Brighton since 1927, the year the average departing senior took his first step in the ultimate direc- tion of the red-brick schoolhouse. Through all the beginning days, of the energetic, pioneer board of the first wee, but spirited, graduating class, of the gradual developing of her strong founda- tions, Mr. Donley, as principal, chartered for his Brighton school a course of enrichment and progress. J As wild fields in the dewy com- munity became transformed into squares of neat green, as shiny houses climbed up to comfort the few former lonely buildings, as more and more young eyes looked from these houses, curious to learn, Mr. Donley watched the subsequent construction of sev- eral additions to the Elmwood Avenue School and finally the rise of the new high school down the road, when he was made super- intendent of Brighton schools. Today, with Miss Alice Foley and Gordon Allen, principals of the grade school and high school, he oversees learning, character- building, and an awakening of fresh minds that promise truth and progress and mean America. Mrs. Helen Yawman, in the right-hand serving place, guards the smooth-functioning channel through which pass all appoint- ments, mail, and business for Mr. Donley.
