The play is based on the stories and poems of Sholom Aleiehcin the beloved Yiddish humorist. Tevye lHarry Cozl and his Wife Golde CMelva Nilesj live in a peasant town in Tsarist Russia and with the aid of the scriptures raise their five daughters. XVhile unsuccess- fully trying to match his daughters with his choices, he learns that their love for their choices is far more im- portant than the qualities he prefers.
