President Clarke Retires. President John L. Clarke came to Ricks College in 1944. Since that time he has become as much of this institution as the yellow-orange brick buildings which grace this Idaho hillside. After 27 years of dedicated service, the teacher now lays his books and papers by. ln speaking of President Clark, Neal Maxwell, Church Commissioner of Education, says, History will be kind in its assessment of his leadership at Ricks College. His devotion to the Church, his humility and high standards have impressed all of us. Fortunately, his talents will continue to be used effectively in the Church education system. He leaves the school with the deep steadfastness and vision in the midst of great growth and complexity. President Clark has received many honors: In 1969 he was honored by Brigham Young University with an Honorary Doctorate of Public Service. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award from BYU: Citizen of the Year award from Madison County 1964: honorary member of Boy Scouts of American National Council and served on the Board of Regents of the American Foundation for Greece. He has been vice-president of the Northwest Association of Junior Colleges: a member of the higher commission of the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools and the advisory committee of the Idaho State Commission for Higher Education Facilities, and the editorial board of the Junior CollegeJournal. n,, ,,,, L ,,, V A541 Q..
