-T30T-9- -a u rn ■» i . m niKn.i OKWWW u Homecoming - a vintage year: 1962 activities were highlighted by floats, frolics, fires, football and a concert by Four Preps 1962 was a vintage year in BYU homecomings. Besides the multitude of traditional activities, Cougar football players trounced the top- ranked Lobos from New Mexico in an astounding 27-0 upset. Under the chairmanship of Dan Lau, a veritable army of committees had been working out plans as early as the previous spring for the fall celebration. Floats and housing decorations conformed to the theme Ahead of the West. Marilyn Johnson, sponsored by the Sportsmen, reigned over all events as Homecoming Queen. Her first attendant was Shirley Cutler, pro- moted by the Young Republicans. Second Attendant Ann Glauser was sponsored by Hinckley Hall. Special entertainment prior to the dance Friday evening was a concert by the Four Preps, who made their second appearance at BYU. The Four Preps have had two million-sales records with their songs Twen- ty-Six Miles and Big Man and made several television appearances in addition to their recording career. A dramatic and musical review of Homecoming Antics through the years was directed by Buddy Youngreen and starred Lynne Youngreen, Noel Twitchell, Ariel Bybee, Arvid Willden, and Gail Mortensen. Gary Hopkinson was master of ceremonies. 22 Cougarettes and Brawlers greeted the team as they charged onto football turf to face a highly touted New Mexico eleven. The Flintstones were depicted on one of the award winning floats. At halftime, the Cougarettes performed pre- danced away the hours in six halls. Amanda Knight ' s housing decorations cap- tured the eye of many passers-by. Queen Marilyn enjoyed the spectacular variety show of Fieldhouse Frolics to wind up the Homecoming festivities.
