FOREWORD Alpha ' 69 is a unique presentation to Bridgewater State College as the first orig- inal book for the entire student campus. It encompasses each phase of student life and its activities. It is not designed or dedicated to one particular class, but to the entire Bridgewater State College community. In it we have endeavored to capture the thrill of the sliding steal, the cries of tri- umph, Tuesday nights at the CC, and the silent moments that no one can ever describe, but are so much a part of learning. We have portrayed the days of hardships and re- wards, chances lost and won, and the spirit that makes our college the institution that it is. In future years, long after we have departed from the classroom, this book will serve to remind us of those years, friends, and teachers whose guidance have made permanent memories in our minds. The 1969 ALPHA serves as a living memory of those years when we were stu- dents at Bridgewater State College. IN MEMORIAM Life is a series of moments each livened by the spirit which fill them, making some merely shadows dwarfed in the setting sun of the day. Each is to be cherished for its existence as life is too short and priceless to be wasted. It is the way which we fill every minute prescribes how successful our lives will be. Courage, determination, strength, fun, laughter, and competitive spirit blended together give an accurate picture of how Candy lived, and how she was known to her friends. Knowing the future, she did not shrink from her activities, or bemoan her fate— she accepted life and did not let on to others around her the seriousness of her condition. She concentrated on living; she was strong, yes, but more, she knew that her life had to be filled with joy and recreation in order for her to meet the day. It has often been said that death comes too early to the good; in the case of Candance Cowen we know this is true. But we should not dwell on the sorrowful, and untimely death, but rather, we should remember the courage, smile, and warmth of a friend that no time can replace.
