CDR RORIE is a graduate of Union University, Jackson, Tennessee. He entered the Naval Service in May 1952 and was commissioned 5 November of the same year. Since commissioning, he has served in vari- ous destroyer, cruiser, and minesweeper type ships in- cluding command of USS ROBIN CMSC-53 and USS WAXSAW CAN-91y. CDR RORIE attended the U. S. Naval Post Graduate Engineering School where he was awarded a Master of Science Degree in Electrical En- gineering in connection with his studies in the Guided Missile Curricula. Upon completion of his postgraduate studies, he assumed the duties of Weapons Officer, USS TOWERS QDDG-91, the first guided missile destroyer built on the West Coast. He was then assigned to Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Force Pacific Fleet's Staff as Weapons Officer for Gunnery and Guided Missiles. During his last sea assignment as Executive Officer USS COONTZ QDLG-91, he performed additional duty as Chief Staff Officer and Combat Action Reporting Officer, Com- mander Destroyer Squadron FIVE Staff in connection with certain special operations in the Tonkin Gulf. As a result of his performance during this period CDR RORIE was awarded a Secretary of Navy Commendation. He assumed command of BRIDGET in October, 1965 and is completing the second Western Pacific de- ployment as a unit of the SEVENTHFLT in as many years. Recently he was selected for Doctoral Studies in advanced Weapons System Engineering at Vanderbilt University. CDR RORIE is married to the former Patricia Gunliffe of Jackson, Tennessee and has three children, Michael, Catherine and Patrick. His decorations include the Secretary of the Navy Commendation for Achievement and various campaign and service medals. i CA PTAI ..l. R RIE
