The Vocal Music Department offered a wide variety in 1979-1980, with the Advanced Chorus, the Beginning Chorus and Music Theory being offered as credit courses. Extra-curricular groups include the Concert Choir, the Girls' Chorus, and the Male Chorus. Briarcrest placed ten singers in the West Tennessee Chorus and seven in the All- State Chorus. The groups had many opportunities to sing, including concerts at numerous churches, the Federal Correctional Institution, the Tennessee Baptist Convention, and many more. The Concert Choir took its Spring Tour to New York City the week of Spring Break. Once again, this group was a very outstanding choir, and the Lord used them in a great way. A new element in the Concert Choir schedule was introduced this year: a Bible study that was totally organized and conducted by the students. This group met about every other week in the homes of various members. Tri-M completed its third year with the induction of ten new mem- bers, and F.C.M. proved to be a source of inspiration to students as various musical guests gave devotionals and musical presentations each Wednesday before school.
