Social Studies 116 Social Studies The History Department has many things to offer. One history teacher stated, Our American heritage and patriotism are two topics stressed within the history curriculum. This year there were numerous films, videos, and guest speakers on taxes, history, politics, and current affairs. There are five subjects in the History Department: Alabama history: past history, politics, and current events in Alabama: current affairs: current international, national, and local events: geography: map-reading skills and world cultures, world history: economic, religions, social and military developments in the world, American history: past history to current affairs in America, democracyfeconomicsz politics, banking, taxes and careers. Tiss tw' .Q sm iw Many courses are offered by Brewer's Science Department, rang- ing from different levels of general science to biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics. With money raised by the Senior Science Club members the depart- ment has added a computer. The students participated in can and paper drives to add to the money from previous years. The Iunior Science Club hosts a Science Fair for the students of Brewer. The winners are taken to the North Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair that is held at Calhoun. Brewer had eight winners at the Regional competition. Three students from the regional competi- tion, who were invited to participate on the state level, won awards.
