Beauty is defined as the Hagregate qualities in a person that give pleasure to the senses. Poise is by definition a par- ticular way of carrying oneself, composure, assurance, dignity, bearing. Possessing these qualities, Anna Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dyke Thompson, was selected Miss Patrian 1984 and was crowned by the 1983 Miss Patrian, Kristy Galbreath. 158 Miss Patrian

Contestants for the Miss Patrian pageant, spon- sored by the annual staff are selected by clubs for participation. Contestants are judged on the basis of beauty and poise during competition in two categories: casual wear and evening gowns. Casual wear competition, which takes place in the after- noon, includes an informal interview with the judges. After the evening gown competition scores received in both categories are combined to deter- mine the Top Twenty finalists. From those twenty contestants the Five Finalists are chosen.
