Moving In And Registration Convey The Excitement Of A New Year The Brevard School Year of 1981 and 1982 began on August 23 for Freshmen and August 25 for the returning Sophomores. The chaos of moving boxes, beds, and stereos lasted for hours, followed by time for becoming reacquainted with old friends and meeting new ones. R.A. ' s. Mentors, and Big Sisters helped freshmen adjust to a new way of life. On August 26. everyone registered for classes. Amid throngs of students and faculty members, individuals spent confusing hours arranging class schedules to get just the right section of English Even with all the hassle of moving in and registration, we survived to begin an exiting year at Brevard. Green And E. Jones Win Derby Day Titles On Derby Day, August 29, 1981 , brightly colored T-shirt clad participants fought to defend the honor of their respective dorms. Sponsored by the Social Board, Derby Day featured such exciting events as a watermelon eating contest, Izzy Dizzy Relay, Musical Water Buckets, an egg toss and volleyball. The men ' s competition resulted in Green Dorm placing first, with West Beam, Ross Hall, and Taylor following. East Jones captured first place for the women with second place going to West Jones and third to East Beam. A local band, Clear Creek, provided entertainment with a flair of country, blue grass, and rock and roll. An outdoor picnic by the pool resulted in many new friendships.
