When Coyle left the field they had been handed a Z6-12 defeat. Jerry Durham, Don Oscarson and Russ Strong KZ! scored the Eagle t.d.'s. The following Saturday. the Eagles faced Principia of the A. B. C. League. Playing with- out fullback Kurt Herrmann, the Eagles couldn't get started and lost 7-O. Holding a Maplewood team, that was re- ported the best in the history of the school, to a scoreless first half, the Eagles were dealt some bad breaks in the second stanza to lose 19-O. The next two games were real thrillers with the Eagles capturing both of 'them. VVith Monte Shomaker scoring late in the game, the Eagles defeated Ferguson l2-6. At St. Charles the B.H.S. linemen lSeeger, Schaeperkoetter, Kelly. Oscarson. Short and Akel. held the Pi- rates for 16 downs inside their own IO yard line. The Eagles had to holdgnnal score B. H. S. 12, St. Charles 7. Normandys Vikings defeated the Eagles Zl- O, but the Eagles came back against Lutheran to win I9-6. Ashlock, Herrmann and Dur- ham scored for B. H. S. The Hnal three games were played against superior opponents with Brentwood losing to Wellston '53-6, Ritenour 29,0 and closing the season against undefeated Clayton 2046. Coach Sweeney said that the Eagles played one of their best games losing to Clayton.
