OPER TIO The Operations ,Department serves as BREMERTONE nerve center , using installed electronic equipment to coordinate attack and early warning information. ln addition, this equipment is utilized toladvise ship control of the presence of land, surface and air contacts, or other possible dangers, particularly during low visibility. The bulk of this function is performed by the Radarmen in Combat Information Center. Standing behind the radarmen are, however, the electronics technicians. These ETls may be found at any time of the day or night swinging from a mast or crawling through the bowels of the ship in their never-ending duty of keeping the electronics equipment working. Additionally, the Operations Department arranges and coordinates services necessary to conduct the many practices which are essential to a well-trained ship. lt serves as the link between the ship and the various commands which furnish targets, aircraft, and operating areas for the conduct of these practices. , CDR J.
