During the many operations in close quarters, the Bremerton earned her reputation as a precision performer. The extensive operations required a lot of fuel. From time to time, tankers came out to Bremerton. Usually the Bremerton slid alongside one of the Floating gas stations to fill her own thirsty tanks, but sometimes the little destroyers Were even thirs- tier, and the big cruiser, with her greater capacity, fed them the fuel necessary to keep them operating.
