CLC ING Home has a great deal of significance for a sailor. lt means a return to loved ones and to things familiar. It also means a regaining of the large part of ourselves which we may have left there. Bremerton has come a long Way since she sat on the Ways in Camden and recorded in this book are some of the events which took place in a short 10 months of her life. ln two more short months, she will be deactivated- for she, too, is going home. ln the future We will Want to remember the good things-the fun on liberty. . .shopping in Hong Kong. . .beer picnics in Subic Bay. . .Tokyo's fabulous Ginza. . .those division parties in Yoko. . .and the spectacular sight of Fujiyama in midwinter. These were the good things-but there are other things We will take home with us. Kaohsiung and its povertyaBoko Ko and desolation, the pitiful refugees of Hong Kong, Who still have fortitude to seek and preserve their ideals in the face of starvation. We have seen a great deal and many of us have learned from what We have seen. Possibly, now, home has taken on new meanings and We find a greater and deeper appreciation for it.
