Although Flag is what might be considered a small unit in relation to the number of personnel, it is the most composite division aboard. With the combination of hoatswainis mates, radiomen, radarmen, yeomen, signalmen, journalist, quartermaster, photographer, stewards, and marines, it is truly an independent unit. Our function is to complete, place into effect, and carry out the many and varied details of the basic directives of the Admiral. Flag Oflice is the center of all administrative functions of the Flag and in there you will see the Flag Secretary, yeomen, journalist and photographer Working on anything from the gathering of public information material to the preparation of complex operation orders. Our nerve center for the collection and dissemination of strategic, tactical and navigational information is Flag Plot. In Flag Plot, the air defense officer, Watch oihcer, radarmen and quartermaster, work as a team to keep the Admiral clearly informed of the current operational situation and to execute his tactical orders. The radiomen and signalmen carry out the vital duties of handling the communications between the Division Commander and other units. Personal types oi services for the Admiral are performed by other members of the division. The boats- Wain's mates, for example, are responsible for ensuring that the Admiral is provided with transportation in his barge or car Whenever desired. Our marines stand orderly duties and insure the privacy and protection of the Division Commander. Stewards perform the duties of caring for the oflicer's quarters, preparing and serving meals in the Flag Mess. All in all, We are a division of many important responsibilities and activities. In spite of our diversified organization, We are a closely knit group of hard Working men.
