S - 3 Division Today's ships store and service group is a far cry from the original canteen service authorized fifty years ago by Congress. A modern, attractive salesroom, Well equipped soda fountain, and busy vending machines provide the Wherewithal to operate our Laundry, Barber Shops, Cobbler Shop and Tailor Shop. Profits are paid to our recreation fund to finance parties, athletics, hobbies, and movies. Shipis servicemen are as diversified in their jobs and capabilities as the businessmen in any small American city of l000 people, and through their efforts We take to sea with us many of the day-to-day conveniences and luxuries We Americans have come to expect. The primary function of the disbursing office is to handle all pay records and process travel claims. The disbursing oHicer is also the collection agent for all activities aboard the ship.
