T Division X .X Q I i We learned a lot in the First Division, whether it was anchoring the ship, tying it up to a pier, passing an inspection or firing the eight inch guns. We learned, first of all, that excellence was a matter of routine and that the first job was to get the job done. ,lefferis taught us about the deck and was there to see that we kept alert, Paulsen showed us that the eight inch could fire with us behind them. Moore showed us that no job was too great, too tough or too small for the division to handle. There were a lot ol lessons to be learned. Vindiola always had a smile for everyoneg Jeck, Hulse and Nobles did the job with a minimum of talk. We learned a lot, from holystoning, chipping paint, rigging and unrigging awnings, firing guns and just plain fun on liberty during this tour with the First. . f A A A A N. A X. x x x xxx --.
