March-Stayed in Long Beach aliter liull weeks ol: drills and Firing exercises around San Clemente lsland area. 19 March -Commander R. J. Badger relieved Commander S. C. Loomis Jr. as Executive Qhcicer. 25 March -l2igorously tested by Fleet Training Group to ascertain ship's 6 April 8 April 16 April 26 April l May 5 lvlay 9 May 16 May 24 May 29 May 3 June readiness For overseas assignment. Rear Admiral W.G. Schindler, Commander Cruiser Division Tl-HQEE, moved his Flag aboard. -At 0800 left Long Beach, set course For Pearl l-larbor. -After two day at Baker Dock, Pearl l-larbor, sailed on this date For Japan. -Arrived Yokosuka, Japan, and stayed three days. After seven month absence, rejoined Task Force 77 in the Sea ot Japan. y -First Wonsan strike ol: cruise. About 'l0l5 received 16 rounds ol: 76 and 'l-55 millimeter gun Fire From lQed shore batteries. Sustained slight damage From near miss. -Strike in -l-anchon-Songjin area, north ol: Wonsan. --Relieved USS ST PAUL on bombline. -Fourth Wonsan strike ol: month. Last ship to leave Wonsan. - ln Yokosuka, the Admiral and his staicli transferred to USS QUINCY. No liberty granted here because ol: Japanese labor strike. Arrived Nagoya, Japan. Qne of best liberty ports because of many and varied tours, including Noritake China Eactory and Mikimoto Pearl Earm. l2ejoined task liorce For intensive anti-aircraft training. One day stopover in Sasebo. Vice Admiral J.J. Clark, Commander SEVENTH Eleet, presented awards. proceeded south to Hong Kong. Stayed six days in this colorliul international port. Began week of independent ship training. Arrived Sasebo, where Vice Admiral Clark embarked For trip to Eormosa.
