An image, not only of what was, but of what is left to be. Karen Toomey ' 79 10 From all outward appearances May 19th was a typical spring night, but for many of us it was a night of nervous anticipation as we prepared for the big occasion - the Junior Prom. After beginning the night with the traditionally endless picture taking sessions, we gathered at Ridge to meet with friends and share some interesting experiences (like maybe losing the keys?). Then it was off to Weymana and the formal beginning of the Prom. Once there, for some an accomp- lishment in itself, we entered and were seated at a table with but a few minor skirmishes over seats. We ate our simulated roast beef, talked among friends, danced and had our pictures taken again, and again, and again. As the evening drew to a close, we were treated to a rather unusual rendition of If which the band was persuaded to play. And so with favors in hand, beer mugs and brandy snifters, we went our separate ways to parties, out to eat, bowling, or whatever... (bowling?). Yet, kaleidoscopically speaking, whether we had a great time or something less, the Junior Prom will always be a part of our memories and that in itself makes it very special. J. John P. ' I TEENAGERS Blow dryers, make-up, and corduroy jeans are standard equipment in a house full of teens. A phone that is busy for hours on end, walls full of posters, records to lend. Continuous showers and endless shampoos, imagine the gallons of water they use. When they get a license, they forget how to walk, and they never have time for a heart-to-heart talk. The teenager ' s stomachs are bottomless pits, they buy oodles of ointment to help zap the zits. T-shirts that carry a message are in, and blouses are naked without a stickpin. A language that only their peers understand, hair that is feathered and rings on each hand. Ears that are pierced and lots of gold chains, those very high wedgies cause such aches and pains. They spend so much time getting ready for school, it ' s really important that everything ' s cool. Lisa Woolf James O ' Rourke I 64 Frederick O ' Sullivan Jeffery M. Students and faculty were asked to dress in outfits and colors to reflect their Nationalities. Linda Bujarski took first for her colorful German costume, Mr. Larson took second for his unusual Viking attire, and Maura Murphy(below) placed third for her exceptional Irish outfit. The day was also highlighted by the Red Cross Blood Mobile visit and fifty-two pints of blood were donated by students and teachers. Day one of Wamp Week was an interesting and unusual experience. On Tuesday, many students and faculty members showed their school spirit by dressing as clowns. During the day, many painted faces and brightly colored costumes were seen throughout the halls. A bubble-gum blowing contest was held and ribbons were awarded for the biggest bubbles and the best costumes. First prize was given to Donna Akins, second place was awarded to Kathy Keelon and third prize was given to Kathy Lewis. It was a fun-filled day as Braintree students and faculty proved that this year, the Wamps would make clowns out of Norwood! thu dQv Thursday was spirit color day and students were asked to dress in the color of their class. Freshman wore white for their purity, sophmores wore green for the envy of upperclassmen, juniors wore gray for their partially corrupted minds, and the seniors wore black for their thoroughly corrupted minds. Prizes for the day were awarded to these seniors, 1st Carol Melchin, 2nd Carol Jones, 3rd-Dianne Gorman. Spirit chains displaying class colors were constructed outside the cafeteria and students could add a link to their class chain for only five cents. The black senior chain was the eventual winner, three times the length of the underclassmen ' s chains. Thursday was a spirited and exciting day as the Homecoming drew nearer. The final school day of wamp week was designated as Wamp Day with students dressing in blue and white, team uniforms, and indian costumes to display the spirit of Braintree High. To start the day, Wamp Indians made the traditional crossing of Sunset Lake in canoes (above) as students were arriving at school. Wamp headbands, blue and white carnations, and pennants were sold throughout the day. Classes were dismissed early so students could attend the pep rally held in the gymnasium. Prizes were given for the best costumes of the day with Karen Hum Janet Gately winning first prize, Cindy Clancy and Suzanne Hegarty taking second, and Paula Maloof and Janice Page placing third. 101 WAMP O ' f LIMITS Al ( . Yli •WA’-A A A 103 The Homecoming Football Game was an exciting and memorable event for all. Braintrees opposition was the 1977 defending champ, Nor- wood. The powerful Mustangs were on the scoreboard first but the V amps came back with a touchdown of their own. At half time, the score was 15-7 Norwoods favor. Braintree attacked in the second half and played ex- ceptional football. The Mustangs scored their third touchdown tieing the game but missed the extra point. The VVamps recovered the ball and marched down the field as time was running out. Approaching the final minutes the score was locked at 21 - 21. Excitement was mounting and with only 9 seconds left in the game, Braintree kicked the game winning field goal. The fans went wild as the scoreboard flashed 24 - 21. Braintree had triumphed thanks to the super spirit and an all-out team effort. What a game. . . 108 1 1 I J The victorious spirit was carried over into the evening to the gym where the annual Homecoming dance took place. The senior nominees for Homecoming Queen were; Cheryl Burgess, Nancy Clark, Gayle McCarthy, Val McKenny, and Linda Swain. The cli- max of the evening came when Cheryl Burgess was crowned 1978 Homecoming Queen. Val McKenny was the senior at- tendent. The remainder of the evening was spent dancing to the music of Sound Machine. Inevitably, the dance came to a close, a fine conclusion to a spirited, successful and unforgetable week. 109 Homecoming Queen — Cheryl Burgess, Escort — Jim Wojciechowski 0 Ill BRAINTREE HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA CLUB PRESENTS The annual fall play was presented November 17 18, by the Braintree High School Dramatics Club. The production was a combination of both Modern and Shakespearian Drama en- titled Love Makes the World Go Round. An unusual aspect of this presentation was the absence of real leads. Each member of the cast, dressed in black, shared an equally important role. The host and hostess for the evening were Bob Dean, the president and Janine Doherty. Other senior participants were Carol Melchin, Peter Sullivan, Cheryl Digatano, Tricia Gillespie and soloist. Heather Shattuck. ssr NOVEnBER 17 1 00 p.n. Those unforgettable moments That are now our memories. We have our future. We have our dreams. We look there with hopes that will fulfill our lives That future, will soon be our present, take it slow. Beware of each day that goes by because, before we know it; We’ll be looking at the past. And we have our friends Who have made it worthwhile. Together we have memories of our yesterdays. We hold on to them, as We dream toward our tomorrows.
