THAYER PUBLIC LIBRARY BRAINTREE. MASS. 02184 I 3 IbET OOD ' IO 7070 TMAVEB PUBLIC LIBBARY We cried on our first day, And again on our last. We groaned at its’ arrival, But moaned when it past. We counted the days ' till we would be free. Well now here It Is And ! don ’t want it to be. Where will we go? What will we do? It all happened so fast Right out of the blue. What about friends We’ve made year after year. Now that school’s over Do they just disappear? Of course we’ll have memories To look back on and smile. And we’ II use what we’ve learned Well at least for a while. But now in the year Of seventy-eigh t. Like the classes before us Ours must graduate. 3 7A Lewis a , I Co ll • L i a 6 7 i. mmi Twas Friday, the Thirteenth, The day of the Prom. Not a thing had gone right. And still more could go wrong. While we sat at the Ridge, Not once did think. That all over my dress, would soon spill my drink. The car that we rented. Which cost quite a bit. Was bumped at the red light. And my date took a fit. We finally arrived. Our heads in a spin. But our ticket was home. So we could not get in. At this point of the night. What more could go wrong — Well they stepped on the record. And ruined the theme song. We danced until midnight, Some fast and some slow. But when the music had ended. We did not want to go. Well remember that night. For the rest of our days. Because we had a great time — In one or more ways! K. Lewis ' 3 A Day To Be Treasured We dressed in our finest • And left right on time, A day to be treasured Always in our mind. A corsage of light blue Was pinned to my dress, While the matching carnation Was where you would guess. Our pictures were taken A t his house and mine. Then off to Weymana Where we were to dine. danced until midnight, The band playing great, Then they played the theme song Just for me and my date. An evening so filled Of good times and laughter. Will always be thought of For years to come after. K. Lewis 75 I Barry William Ahern Chess Club 2,3,4, Stone Soup Staff 4, Debate 3, School Mus- ical 2,3,4. Wamp Week is a time when everyone can come together in spirit to release the energy of competition, it’s a time to iet off a littie steam after the crush of the fail assignments. It’s also a time to act a little crazy and get away with it; after all, who asks an Indian for a haii pass? The activities began on Monday, which was crazy hat day. Students and facuity donned their favorite chapeaus. Everything from Mexican sombreros to top hats were seen passing through the iabyrinth of the schooi on spirited B.H.S. bodies. Tuesday was dress-up day on which the students dressed up in their best threads and the teachers dressed down in their worst rags. Among the featured fashions was a pink and white evening gown worn by Tina Chaisson. Sporting his iatest three piece Brooks Brothers suit was Brian Smith. Cariton Storms, not to be out- done, displayed his authentic Hama skin vest with matching torn t-shirt and pants. Wednesday was Lumberjack Day on which Braintree prepared to “split Dedham in haif.’’ Among the tree topplers were Richard “Sven” Larson and “Pierre M. N. Doia, who roamed the schooi grounds in search of the biggest sap. Thursday was “Ciass Coiors Day, when each class wore their own color. The freshmen wore red, the sophomores green, the juniors brown and the seniors biue. Smartly dressed Dolores Varrasso truly had the blues when she appeared in a blue suit, cape, gioves shoes and hat. Students arriving at schooi Friday sighted Indians from the Wampatuck tribe crossing the mighty Sunset in their birchbark canoes. When the Wamps arrived in school they were greeted by the students and faculty dressed in blue and white. Later in the day the chief of the Wampatucks, portrayed by Chris Preston, and the tribes’ medicine man made an appearance at the schooi. 98 Spirit chains were constructed representing each classes color. The senior class was victorious in the end with the longest chain. The school day was ended with a pep rally featuring the B.H.S. Band, Cheerleaders, Majorettes, Pep Squad and Football Teams. 99 1 , Saturdays homecoming game began with a parade down Washington Street ending at the Hollis playing field. The theme of the senior float was DARKNESS OVER DEDHAM, BRIGHTNESS OVER BRAINTREE . On the float was Melissa Dembro and Tina Chaisson in their bee outfits along with Shelia Callahan who lit up our lives as the sun. Sue Royce, Doiores Varasso and Jane Curtin as football players and Cindy Crooks dressed as a sunflower. Ann BregoU drove her bug to emphasize the point that Dedham really bugs us. Ik ! r ’f. WO ) 101 k. 104 • 1 4 105 tt 108 Saturday night’s Homecoming Dance ended Wamp Week with dan- cing music provided by “RARE PLEASURE’’ featuring guest vocal- ists Lisa Sorenson and Nella Town- send. Excitement and anticipation were at a high peak when Maureen O’Leary was announced as the 1977 Homecoming Queen . . When the dance was officially over everyone was off to still more excitement where the lights in the night spots of Norfolk County burned late into the evening. 109 V Homecoming Nominees ( L to R) J uniors Kim Barba jean Bradford Diane Powers janine Winn Seniors Tricia Barrett Micheie Hoibrook Debbie Kearns Maureen O’Leary Karen Prairio iiO A. 777 Ay The 1977 fall play “ My Sister Eileen proved to be another great show by the B.H.S. Drama Club. Donna Santackas as the title role was the sophisticated and beautiful Eileen. Other out- standing senior players were Leo Harrington, Rich Repetta, David Schaefer, Richard Pickering, Dean Giles and exchange student Jan Nielsson. The Conga Line was probably the most fun part in the play, when the audience joined in dancing around the auditorium with the Panamian Saliors. m .dV .vo ' ’ „Ad srJ ' 114 115 The Braintree High Annual Winter Concert was a great success. The Band, Orchestra, Concert Choir, and Mad- rigal Singers performed to a full house of over 385 townspeople. AH the groups worked many long hours and should be commended for an out- standing performance. A highlight of the evening was listening to a special Christmas song written by our own custodian Mr. Peter Hurlburt. Thursday, December 15, 1977 8:00 P.M. EAST JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL Keeping with our yearly tradition, the students and faculty of Braintree High worked extremely hard to help make the Christmas of others happy. A deluge of gifts were collected and brought to the pit where various members of the Student Govern- ment and Key Club, along with countless other volunteers wrapped them. When the week before Christmas finally arrived, a spectacular heap of gifts adorned the pit. AH that was left to do was to let jolly oH Saint Nick (portrayed by Mark Gallivan) deliver them to the various underprivileged homes and youth host lies. It is the fond hope of this year’s senior class along with Mr. Grant, that future classes will carry on “Operation Santa Claus’’ in future years and share the Christmas spirit with others. I The Red Cross Blood Mobile came to Braintree High’s dance room on Friday, December 16, 1977. Ap- proximately 80 people came to give blood, the majority of which were seniors. Future Medical Club members were on hand to type, to take temperatures, to assist the nurses, and to serve refreshments. The event was planned and organ- ized by Student Government. 118 On December 20, 1977, preceed- ing the Dedham basketball game, the B.H.S. gymnasium was dedicated in honor of Frederick Herget, Director of Physical Educa- tion and Athletics. Mr. Herget was a basketball coach at B.H.S. from 1953 to 1970. In 1977 he was chosen as a member of the Basket- ball Coaches’ Hall of Fame. ki. 5 The Plaza being enclosed was one of the many bigger steps for a more efficient Community by Braintree in the year 1978. it meant warmth in running from store to store. With the plaza being climate controlled, you can shop in comfort and this means easier shopping for the many people in the surrounding suburbs. Many art shows, displays, music shows, plays , and other demonstrations now come to the piaza. A substantial movement toward a better transportation system for the suburbs surrounding Braintree, was to construct the MBTA Red line. The trains will not only provide a more efficient and convenient way to move around, but also will give shoppers the opportunity to visit South Shore Piaza without the hassle of paying parking fees and finding parking spaces. Elm St. Stedman Ave. 1 Braintree Square Braintree, Mass Phone 843-6000 Phone 843-8430 38 1 Washington street Braintree, Mass. 02184 On February 6th and 7th, a blizzard with hurricane force winds wracked New England depositing approximately 36 inches or more of snow and packing gusts of wind of more than 60 miles per hour. The storm paralyzed highway traffic and caused exten- sive coastal flooding. Massachusetts National Guard was called to aid in snow re- moval. Sixty-two armories in the state opened for use of emer- gency shelters. A state of emergency was declared by the gov- enor and driving was banned except for emergency vehicles. Schools were closed and all business were dosed except for food stores. One of the major troubled spots was Route 128 where 4000 cars and trucks were stalled and snow bound. Although the schools were dosed, learning took place in the form of practical experience and relating to others in an emer- gency situation. 381 WASHINGTON ST., BRAINTREE C ' ' y) Hair M agic AUTO SOUND SYSTEMS 6am CUSTOM INSTALLATIONS POLICE SCANNERS UNISEX HAIR SALON AUTO ALARMS 843-6400 4 GRANITE STREET 848-2610 BRAINTREE, MASS. 02184 195 196 ■t ' f I 197 I I i i 1 I I 1 f s 1 i I I i t. 199 P - r 01 FOR CiRCOra 1629
