During the past sixteen years, it has been my privilege to act as principal of Braintree High School. It has been a real rewarding experience because of the many wonderful young people I have met and the many fine teachers with whom I have worked and shared dreams and problems. Braintree is a fine community, and the general character and makeup of the student body reflects this fact. For, it is my opinion the home is where the moral values are inculcated, as a twig is bent, so will the Tree grow.” However, I do have a concern and a sadness for many of our young people today. I note an ever-increasing indifference, apathy, and lack of moral fiber among far too many of our young people. Too few will stand up and be counted. Paradoxically, there are a few students who show great concern, and lament the vast appar- ent indifference of the many. Maybe they are the leaders, and the hope for a future. I consider a good attitude to be basic to every- thing and real pride in one’s self and one’s accomplishment to be the keys to future happiness. Thank you and good luck! Sincerely, Walter K. Hjelm WALTER K. HJELM, Principal 9

We have hoped to instill in you two very essential qualities. We believe we have inspired you to do your best through classroom competition and on the playing field. We decry the poor quality of workmanship and disinterested attitude so common and urge you not to be satisfied with less than your very best effort. We have insisted on integrity, for only in being honest can you be fair. We must depend on one another not to cheat, steal, or be dishonest else we lead to our own destruction. If these are the cornerstones of your character you will succeed. William F. Young WILLIAM F. YOUNG, Superintendent of Schools
