Dear old Alma Mater wants ' school love, And school love we shall give her. tcUhuU I ;1 HOW LITTLE WE KNOW I hope you have read the story of Nell Rankin, who at the age of twelve made up her mind to become a grand opera singer, bolstered by her faith in her father ' s assurance: You can do any- thing you want in life— anything— if you just try hard enough. She reached her goal as I am sure each of you who are willing to follow in the same spirit may likewise do. Two things are required: ambition and hard work. Your future and our school ' s reputation depend on the extent to which you accept and practice the implications of this attitude. Twelve years of schooling have given you the mental skills; will you now apply them— not at seventy per cent, but to live a one hundred per cent life? U . RALPH W. PROCTOR Superintendent Braintree Public Schools BELIEVE Get to know the people you live with, work with, and meet in everyday life as they know them- selves. This is the best advice I have ever re- ceived. If you follow this advice you will gener- ally stop, analyze and think out a more satisfactory solution. More unhappiness is created through hasty and biased judgment than through any other human behavior. Think kindly, be considerate, and happiness is sure to follow. WALTER K. We were classified as freshmen then and not really respected by our upper- classmen. We faced the music bravely, though, and did our very best, joining clubs and participating in school sports. Then we elected our proud class officers: James Magaldi, president; Donna Traverse, vice president; Jacqueline Decourcy, secretary; Don Eccles, treasurer. By the end of the year we had finally found our way around the high school, but it was all too late— time for vacation. The following year we attempted it again. This time we already had our class officers. Lillian Ward was elected our new treasurer. The big event of the year was the Sophomore Social which was supervised by Mrs. Norma Pinkerton and Mrs. Rosalind Pinel. It must have been a success because even our brave football stars attended. We were real outstanding when Betty Lord starred as Ginger in Time Out For Ginger ; this time we showed the juniors and the seniors. Were we all as intelligent as we tried to look that day when some of us were inducted into the National Honor Society? We were certainly very proud of ourselves. It was too bad that Judy Thomas was the only sophomore cheerleader, but that did not prevent little Judy from hollering as loud as any junior or senior. When we finally reached our junior year we introduced ourselves to our new principal, Mr. Walter K. Hjelm, quite voluntarily of course. By that time we had almost graduated from the title of underclassmen ; at last we could call someone an underclassman. Many of us be- came experienced in sports, even stars. The football and basketball teams did not have good seasons, but Alan Hedlund and Alan Wolfert gained the opportunity to make themselves famous. Nancy Davidson, our new treasurer, opened the class treasury book to find that we had no more than six dollars to our names. When ring season came along we all scraped up our five dollar deposits and waited for two long months for those all important objects. During the ring season the operetta, The Prince of Pilsen was produced. A few juniors had leading roles which contributed to its success. The most important event of this year was, of course, the Junior Prom. And what an enchanted evening 1t was! It was at this same time that we began work on our year- book under the sponsorship of Miss Constance Stecher. We found it an unpleasant moment when it came time to bid farewell to the seniors, but we were the upper- classmen we had waited so long to be. Our last year at Braintree High School was incompa- rable. First thing we elected our senior officers: James Magaldi, president; Donna Traverse, vice president; Jacqueline Decourcy, secretary; Nancy Davidson, treas- urer. And what a fine job they did for us our last year. Early in the fall we were frightened by the ceaseless talk of college boards and civil service exams. Most of us received our class pictures and handed them out as if we thought we were actors. With thoughts of an interesting theme we launched our plans for that un- forgettable Senior Show. The resulting display of talent banished all ideas of ever going to college— we were going to Hollywood. Shortly after we received our year- books and enjoyed having our friends autograph them. But we snapped out of our daze when we realized how late in the year it was. The hustle had begun. Plans were made for the Banquet and the Reception. It was at times like those that teachers were appreciated; even our parents came in handy for that small loan, and the keys to the new car. The Senior Reception was an un- surpassable event for everyone who attended. It marked the end of the great hustle of the senior year, and it began our recollections of the most wonderful years of our lives. That evening, as we reached for our diplomas at our Graduation exercises, we thanked B.H.S. for everything. 59 7 ede We, the Class of 1959, of the Town of Braintree in the County of Norfolk and the State of Massachusetts, being of unsound mind and dubious memory, do make, publish, and declare this our last will and testament, in the manner following, that is to say: To the incoming Sophomores we leave all surplus soap in the shower rooms.
