Here we have sung of our love and loyalty” and offered our praises unto thee” under the guidance and friendly understanding of our principal, Walter K. Hjelm. For the opportunities of these past years we offer thanks — thanks for thy charities.” The Class of 1958 presents THE WAMPA- TUCK as a record of treasured memories during work and play — so stand, honor her who so faithfully serves. The greatest natural resource of any country is her people. Everyone is gifted with certain abilities to some degree. The greatest tragedy that could befall a country would be the failure of its people to develop their own potentials. Complacency, indifference, laziness, selfishness and self-pity are the greatest enemies and have been the destruction of many great civilizations. If we would all develop our own attributes to their fullest potential, not only would we be developing richer and happier lives for ourselves, but we, as a country, would be invincible. I implore you to do your part to preserve our way of life. It may be later than you think. u) ClOjEzsT- K . I BENEATH THE SLOPES OE OLD GREAT BLUE OUR ALMA MATER STANDS. faculty WALTER K. Class Mistory Remember, long ago, when as freshmen we — - Had to use a road map in order to find our lockers, the auditorium, and the cafeteria, Tried to figure out why fifty million Frenchmen couldn’t be wrong and why x = y, Elected our hard working class officers: Dan LaPlante (president), Leo Gallivan (vice president), Janet Saw- yer (secretary), Ted Lang (treasurer), Wore nothing but charcoal and pink,” Looked forward to those fire drills, and enjoyed our very first office session; Can we ever forget when as sophomores, we — Became, to our great joy, upperclassmen for the first time, Displayed our talent as actors and actresses in Penny,” our school play, Struggled through second year French, algebra, and Latin, Saw results of hard work as some of our members were initiated into the National Honor Society, Elected Barbara Symmes our vice president and Leo Gallivan our president, Watched our basketball team take part in the Tech Tourney, and Planned and attended our Sophomore Social after a postponement caused by old man winter” himself; Then as upperclass” juniors we — Thoroughly enjoyed our operetta, The Count and the Coed,” Learned all about the Navy in Physics, Took lessons on how to park through our Driver Education program, Watched the girls’ club become co-educational, Received a shot of that wonderful Salk vaccine, Bought our class rings — a treasured reminder of B. H. S. Elected Fred Jones our vice president, and Danced all night to the theme of Moonlight and Roses” at our prom; Then at the end of our journey, we mighty seniors — - Welcomed as our new principal Mr. Walter J. Hjelm, Found ourselves nearly bankrupt as the result of year- books, class dues, and pictures, Began to make definite plans for future education and work, Planned and performed our Senior Show, a huge suc- cess, Caused unheard-of commotion in Chemistry lab, Ate too much at ' the banquet as our stomachs so rudely informed us, Danced through a night of wonder at our reception, and Finally, We the Class of ’58 received our diplomas thus ending our days at B. H. S. Class Will Be it Remembered that We, the Braintree High School Class of the Year One Thousand Nine Hundred and Fifty-Eight, of Braintree, Norfolk County, in the Commonwealth of Mas- sachusetts, being of sickly mind and memory, but realizing rather feebly the uncertainty of this life, do make this our First Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former wills by us at any time heretofore made. After the payment of our extravagant debts and meager graduation charges, we bequeath and devise as follows: To our former Principal, Mr. Clement, and our present Principal, Mr. Hjelm, our sincere appreciation for their interest and support. To Miss Stecher we offer our thanks for all that she has done to make our yearbook a success. To Mademoiselle Richards we wish better luck in finding a French class that can conjugate the verb etre correctly. To the faculty, our best wishes for a pleasant summer vacation, during which time they may renew their patience and fortitude. To the sophomores, the thrill of having only two more years to go. To the Junior Class, a rocket ship in which they may attempt to match our success. To the incoming class officers, the trustworthiness and sin- cerity our officers have shown. To Mr. Toolin a brand new lab where each student may work alone. To the Future Nurses Club we leave our sincere blessings for future patients. The cheerleaders bequeath their worn-out vocal chords to any junior who can swallow them. To Rooms 204 and 208, electric typewriters for the slow stu- dents. To the cafeteria, a set of unbreakable dishes with milk bottles to match. The members of the Ski Club leave on crutches. Our girl hot-rodders, Marion Dexter, Virginia Most, Judy Goodwin, Paula Piraino, and Carol Jernegan, leave — making everyone wonder just how they passed safe driving. The senior girls gladly turn over the torture chamber, com- monly referred to as the gym, to the unfortunate victims of the class of ’59. Bobby Baker leaves — if all goes well. Diane Robbins and Melanie Masked will their acrobatic ability to any overweight junior needing the exercise. Dick Legg offers his chair in chemistry to any junior who needs the sleep. Phil Hylen bequeaths his place in the milk line to any thirsty sophomore. Paul Rusconi outgrows his flashy attire — perhaps they’ll fit D. R.” Robert Aldorisio gladly wills his knowledge of French to Monsieur Goldberg. Teddy Mahler leaves, wondering why he came in the first place. Jackie Maddocks and Betsy Shuster willingly leave their place in the band to any girl enjoying the companionship of the opposite sex. Janet Lyons leaves her blush in room 108 for the unfortunate victims of next year. Ricky” Pomfret leaves, wishing he could stay. (We wonder why!) Hugh Snow wills a bottle of Brioschi and a dilapidated library card to any future English 41 student. Sandy Smith wills her overbearing manner and her private wardrobe to Dale DeRosa. Fran Carlozzi graduates with the misfortune of soon becoming the hen-pecked husband of Miss Hollywood of B. H. S. Joe Donahue leaves with the memory of sharing English 31 with those students striving toward a college degree. Roger Nelson and Linda Hutchings leave Braintree High at- tempting to prove that two intelligent (?) heads are much better than one. Phyllis Leppanen wills her timely swing to a real hep’ ' junior. (Female, of course!) Our co-captains, Dick Adley and Dick Harvey, offer their formal attire for future rallies. Dutchie” Tomasello leaves, looking toward a wedding band in the very near future. We will pass over the name of Sam Persampieri — he needs all he has. Muriel Holt leaves Miss Richards in a state of near collapse. Pauline Webster bequeaths her soft quality of articulation to Marie Donovan. Harry Barbieri leaves a trail of choking exhaust to anyone daring enough to get that close. To any interested junior, Jimmy Hamilton will give a free lesson in the art of how to acquire a female chauffeur who also furnishes the car. Ted Lang offers to Robert Niles his authority on feminine charm. Carol Messier and Marilyn Senior will their never ending smiles to any sadsack junior. Monte Newman wills his overpowering physique to Ronny Kaiser. Janet MacCormick and Bobby Fitch leave Miss Lindsay in bewilderment wondering who will be the leads in future operettas. Sandra Rollins leaves via plane to some far off enchanting country. (Don ' t forget to send a card. Sandy?) Anne Leonard conveys to any deserving junior her dynamic power of oration. Janice Cotton wills that giggle to any person interested in the study of contagious personality traits. Buzzy Kievenaar dedicates his book Acquiring a Real Gone Haircut in Two Easy Lessons to any gullible junior. Janet Occhino offers a few empty coke bottles left over from those crazy get-togethers following the operetta productions Our class president, Leo Gallivan, graduates, after a very ' suc- cessful four years directing our class with the memory of acquiring many friends. Renee Brawley wills her million and one freckles to any girl with the room. Eddie Dolan leaves, making his teachers very happy. Marie Bennett bequeaths to Mr. Kingsbury her profound theory of government. Bobby Schrader walks away from graduation with a girl on one arm and — oops, another on his other arm. (We wonder where his diploma is!) Eileen Lavery offers her naturally curly hair to any sophomore who lacks curl control ! While Allen Swain leaves Gabriel to play with next year ' s seniors, Janice Bradley leaves Hughie to have fun with next year’s juniors. Diane Gerrior offers her feminine secrets to all those juniors needing companionship during this long summer vacation. Before graduating, Audrey Piccini bequeaths to Sue Stowe a few lessons on cutting hair. (Audrey seems to be an expert, guess why !) Jimmy Smoyer leaves, still remembering his close association with death one special day in room 108! We, the undersigned, do bid farewell, as we leave the testing grounds of Braintree High School in our space ship built of patience, anxiety, disappointment, and pleasant memories. In witness thereof, we hereunto set our hand and seal this eighth day of November in the Year of Our Lord, one thousand nine hundred and fifty-seven. JANET NEREO WAYNE RAND Most School Spirit T.
