Our Bus
Change is the fundamental law of na-
ture, Consequently, we would expect a
school system to develope from year to
year if it keeps pace with the times. Brad-
ford High School has endeavored to be
first in all departments of its curriculum
so it became necessary for the board of
education to begin thinking seriously about
the problem of transporting its pupils
who live outside the district. Beginning
last July the principal made a survey of
the territory tributary to the Bradford
High School. He found located in this ter-
ritory a large number of pupils who nor-
mally came to the Bradford High School
but were attending schools of smaller en-
rollment and did not have the comprehen-
sive curriculum to offer the student, but
were attracting the students by transpor-
tation. At a special meeting the board de-
cided to operate a bus On a chosen route,
for the purpose of transporting non-high
school pupils.
In the choicg of an operator for the
bus the board of education was very
fortunate. 'Skiney" Wood was finally
chosen from a group of very competent bid-
ders for the route. "Skiney" has
21 reputation for a genial disposition,
pleasant g00d morning, to an the students
who are on time, and a clever remark for
the few who are not "Johnny on the spot"
each morning. He is well liked and re-
spected by all the students who ride in
the bus. It is rather a remarkable and
unusual record but the bus has never been
late during the school year. This speaks
very well for both the driver and the pu-
pils, "Skiney" is always willing to make
a late trip so the students may have the
advantage of seeing a football, basketball
game, or attend an all school party. Need-
less to say this doesn't detract from his
popularity.
In addition to bringing the students to
school each morning the bus is used in
all extra-curricular trips. This adds very
much to the efficiency of the school sys-
tem. When the football team, basketball
team, band, glee clubs or future farmers
desire a trip they are all transported in
the bus This has many advantages that
people who are not closely associated with
the school realize. It means that with two
teachers it is possible to closely supervise
any group of students who are on the trip,
It means that the best means of trans-
portation is provided with a competent
driver and in a vehicle that is in perfect
mechanical condition. It means that all
students leave together and come home
together: and finally it means that by
traveling together a closer bond of friend-
ship develops among the students.
So we the student council, representing
the student body of Bradford High School,
wish to congratulate the board of educa-
tion upon this timely and worthwhile in-
novation to our school system. May they
continue in their progressive attitude to-
ward the young people of the community.
