A Student Council
Seated, left to right-Lola Mae Turner, John Howes, President, Mr. E-dmundson,
Advisor, Wilma Sellers, Secretary, John McKean. '
Second row-Earnest Linden, Darlene Linden, Tom Nevitt, Mary Ellen Calhoun,
. Richard Owens.
"Ask the Student Council" is a fam-
iliar saying when new suggestions or
questions arise in any class or club. They
also sponsor Big Brother and Sister Day,
The Carnival, Home Coming and the Bra-
donian.
Two events that members of the stu-
dent Council always look forward to are
the District and State Conventions. At the
district meeting in East Peoria this fall
we not only received much interesting in-
forimation about council organization, soc-
ial :problems in the schools, and financing
student coun-cil activities, but also Lola
Mae Turner was elected secretary of the
Pekin District, Mr. Edmundson and three
delegates will attend the state convention
which is held at Carbondale in Afpril. We
feel that we received a great deal of valu-
able information here besides meeting stu-
dents from schools all over the state,
The annual home coming and carnival
was the big event of the year for the stu-
dent council. This was especially exciting
this year for we played our rival, T-oulon,
in the afternoon. Of course nothing could
stir up more enthusiasm than the parade
-at noon. This consisted of clever floats
from the various classes, clubs and indiv-
uals. The band leading the parade, start-
ed from the school, marched through the
main streets, and back to school before
the game started, During the intermission
at the half the bicycle floats paraded
around the field and the winners of the
parade were announced.
Although much excitement was aroused
during the day, this was mild compared
to the usual excitement aroused at a
good carnival. The first part of the eve-
ning was spent in enjoying the variety of
booths, confetti, dancing and bingo. The
student council was in charge of the bingo
g-ame and the winners were 'pleased with
their nice prizes. The carnival king and
queen, Jerry Holland and Helen Alex-
ander were crowned at eleven o'clock.
One of the student council's biggest
projects is Big Brother and Sister Day.
This is held each spring. The student
council visits the different grade schools
in the Bradford High School territory and
invites all eighth grade students to at-
tend the high school for one day. The
visitors are taken by the freshmen and
shown around the school. They visit all
the classes they will attend next year as
freshmen,
Another responsibility of the student
council is the printing of -the annual. We
publish this as a visual description of
student life-so that all students after
graduation may look back on their school
days.
The student council wishes to be re-
membered by all students as a clearing
house of all friction in the school between
classes or otherwise. Its motto is a "'Big-
ger and Better B. H. S."
