H What is our school? Is it just the familiar red brick building, the winding corridors, the bustling cafeteria, the spacious gymna- sium, the well-equipped classrooms? No, it represents more than material substances -it represents such intangibles as student, faculty, and community interest. At Brad- ford Senior High School students learn to feel a pride in their Alma Mater and to par- ticipate in its activities, faculty members have faith in those under their tutelage, and the community supports the school wholeheartedly Mr. Bell takes a moment out from his busy rou- tine to talk to a group of students. . . . Between repairing desks and cleaning floors, these two custodians find time to keep our walks and lawns clean, tco. Mrs. Anderson wields the ladle as head ofthe cafe- teria staft. These ladies, all wives and mothers themselves, see to it that the students and faculty have enough to fill their stomachs, come lunch time. If it weren't for these behind-the-scenes workers, our school wouldn't run so smoothly as it does. The last plaque of our new Freedom Shrine is lifted into place by Ralph Gilson and 'lHop MacDonald. The English Department works for perfection in written and oral English, challenges the imagination of the students with colorful literature and composition courses. The result-clear thinking and expression of ideas. Stu- dents with extra energy and enthusiasm tackled Latin, French, and Spanish, and discovered them to be fascinating and fun. Evidence of this was the lively foreign conversation carried on outside of class. Public speaking gave valuable experience and training in expressing oneself before a group. Through these informal but informative sessions the students were exposed to various ideas and learned to form unbiased opinions. ,D fQwif24ev7a.c:5E,:-C Daphne Harper, Marianne P. Plane and solid geometry with their triangles and cubes offer a compelling challenge to all mathematicians. Turning out licensed drivers, the Driver Training Course stressed our safety and that of others. An unusual course was that of speech correction. Band Marching down the field in flashing red and gold uniforms, the seventy-three piece band raised the spirits of football fans with their lively interpretations of familiar songs. Led by nine high-steppers and two color guards, these music lovers performed intricate drills with precision timing. Half-time performances were sparked with clever maneuvers centered around such tunes as The Happy Wanderer, Gillette's Look Sharp, and Hernando's Hideaway. The band proved their skill during out-of-town games. The annual combined concert with Warren proved to be ci musical extravaganza long to be remembered by the audience. 1 r I filf' v jf, ' L 1. g f !,L M ,74,'-' L w I ' I 7A1,L ZW L f f ,ffyfl zfflr! jf? fv fp' A fl.ff,'4 ' I ,4! fa , A ,ff 1 ff, ,A ffl. ffff rl Af I I If I j ,Lynx 1, If 2 1 ' Lf x' V ,' ,- ' . f- 1132 lf Lf glglfjll X ' If C ,4,Y,,f x1f-7'1Xf vyl Experienced The Voices Rise Row IV - P. Junior-Senior Chorus members blended their voices every morning in the music practice room to achieve the excellence for which they are noted. The Senior Chorus played host to the District Fes- tival of the North Central District of Pennsylvania Music Educators. This annual festival is looked forward to by high school music students ot many nearby cities as a chance to meet in a pro- gram of harmony and fellowship. Chorus members with a competitive spirit were auditioned in order to select the performers for a December program at the Choral Rotary Club. The final choice was a double mixed quartet and soprano soloist. The instrumental background was ably supplied by students selected from the band and orchestra. The Junior-Senior choruses combined to present two inspiring assemblies at Thanksgiving and Christmas. These annual events were charac- terized by group singing. The auditorium rang with such familiar tunes as Come Ye Thankful People, Come, and Silent Night. The accomplished accornpanists, playing for the choruses, were Louise Lawson and Shirley Trulick. In the second week of classes, the choristers elected the following oFficers: SANDRA GAR- WOOD, president, LORI LEE KELLER, vice presi- dent, MARGARET DIFONZO, secretary, NANCY MERRY, treasurer, and DONNA SNEATH, busi- ness manager. Archery Club The Archery Club was formed this year with a two-fold purpose in mind: first, to provide an opportunity for those interested in the sport to become better acquainted with it and, secondly, to enable those already skilled to improve their performance through practice and instruction of the beginners. Twenty-eight sons and daughters of the goddess Diana's sport provided themselves with bow, arrows, and quiver to participate in Mr. Craw- ford's program. VOCATIONAL TYPING TodaY's Typists, Tomorrovv's Authors Basic fundamentals of personal typing, such as keyboard fingering, punctuation, and the correct form for business and personal letters, made up the program for the Vocational Typing Club. This club, under the apt supervision of Miss Mar- ian Raver, provided relief from the everyday program of shop studies. This also gave oppor- tunity for the pursuance of other than required subiects. Pen-Lines, under the guidance of Mrs. Rodney Schoch, was one of the most active clubs. The eleven members were continuously writing es- says, poetry, short stories, plays, and advertis- ing. They studied styles of famous authors and wrote the publicity for the Senior Class Play. Many of their writings were entered in Folio, Literary Cavalcade, and a school anthology in California that publishes the best amateur poetry and prose writings of these forty-eight states. The Bradford Senior High Owls completed the 1954-55 season in a blaze ot glory. The over- all record for Coach Francis Rock Denning's Owls was not what they desired, but every game made them stronger, and they played in true Bradford style. Midway in the season the gridders appeared headed for a disastrous season, but they started to roll when the chips were down. In fact, at the close of the campaign, they appeared able to hold their own with not only their earlier con- querors, but with other powers of the state as well. Tradition was broken when the Warren Dragons were able to defeat us. Nevertheless, the Owls made BHS proud of them when they regained their lost prestige in the season finale over the Olean Huskies. Coach has had the good fortune in the past years to dominate the District Nine Division in track and field events. This year the squad was very large and we had many boys with a num- ber of points to their credit. Topping the list was Larry Gildersleeve, followed closely by Jim Col- osimo and Bob Sealy. This year we had about eight lettermen return- ing and they all turned in fine iobs during the season. The squad had quite a few green horns whom Coach Paige had to whip into shape in order to present a well-balanced team for the school. The inter-class meet was won by the iuniors. Close on their heels were the sen- iors, while last to cross the finish line were the sophomores. The record of the Owl Tracksters wasn't too im- pressive last year, but they are looking forward to next season with great expectation and hope to have another engaging season for the B. H. S. track fans. Up and over is the object of the Owls' top flight hurdlers, Bob Sealy and Jimmy Colosimo. Giz seems to have the edge here, but, when these two meet, a nip and tuck affair is a certainty. The hundred-yard dash is always a keyeclvup event. Here Larry Gildersleeve's muscular legs carry him triumphantly to the tape. Larry's expression seems to denote victory as his aim. At any rate, good sprint, Larry!
