FINE ARTS and LANGUAGE Courses Enrich Students' Lives Many superb fine arts courses are offered to the students in Brackenridge. Interesting courses in art and music, as well as foreign language were popular with practically every student enrolled in Brackenridge- High School. In the art classes, a student may learn. anything from elementary drawing to complex picture paint- ing. The music department here at Brackenridge offers music courses in band, chorus work, and A Cappella choir. The very beautiful and romantic language of Spanish is offered to any student who might be interested in a foreign language course. These elective courses enrich and sometimes even inspire the life of every student who takes them. Miss Ethel Jones displays her Derry Blue Terrier which she has trained as a show dog. She fittingly named it Blue Charm. Mr. Irving Dreibrodt's remark gets frowns, starry-eyed looks, and smirks from Virginia Hill, Edward Ortiz, and Richard Brown. sus :fi pp lf is s O C Mrs. Betty Briggs, art teacher, is examining a picture at the Witte Museum. HISTORY Classes Promote Understanding ot World Mr. Alvin Roesler proudly displays the inner-parts of his new automobile to Mr. Lawrence Johnson, a fellow history teacher. Enjoying his favorite outdoor sport of golf is Mr. Wilber Knox. Historical events from the dark mysteries of the ages to they cold war in Korea are explored by Brackenridge students in they history department. In World history the ways of the ancient Egyptians were studied. In American history the American heritage became important, and in Texas history the students studied the rich Texas background. The only subjects in history that are required for graduation are civics and American history. If any student desires a major in history, he may take Texas history and economics to complete the major. The department of history at Brackenridge gives each student a better understanding of the history of Texas, America, and the world. Also an English teacher, Mrs. Loraine Kirk enjoys keeping up with the latest novels in the teachers' lounge on off-periods.

PRACTICAL ARTS Foods Lab Plays Hostess for Faculty Tea After a hectic day at school, Mrs. Lafferty catches a cat nap while waiting for her husband to come by the school to get her. At a faculty tea given by the foods lab. Mrs. Leon is served cake and punch by Rosemary Rangel while other teachers visit. Practical training in v o c ati o n al subjects was in these places that students learned many tricks of the trade. These vocations help keep us in step with this modern day and age.
