Seated from left to right around the council Table are Councilmen Robert Cross and jack Thurston, Mayor james Brady, Father NVegner, City Clerk Gerald Brady, and Councilmen James Cordon and Mike Trevino. Mayor Brady, the fifty-seventh Mayor of Boys Town, and his council hold office from Ianuary until graduation day on Iune 1. Seq-Qauefznmenl' A self-government system has been in opera- tion at Boys Town for many years. It is a Mayor- City Council form of govermnent. It helps give our citizens of Boys Town practice in governing and knowledge and respect for our democratic American system of government. A new mayor and city council are selected each six months on the following basis: From among the twenty-five cottages commissioners are selected five council- men. One of these five is elected by his fellow students in the high school section to the position of Mayor. The city clerk is appointed by the May- or and is usually the latterls campaign manager. Membership on the council is a high honor for it indicates fine ability, willingness to assume re- sponsibility, and the confidence and trust of fel- low students. Seniors VVayne Maski and James Brady ser- ved as Mayor during the two six-month terms of the current school year. Members of Mayor Mas- kils council, who served from July, 1957, to Jan- uary, 1958, were Robert Cross, Mike Trevino, James Brady and Iames Cordon. Clifford NVil- liams was city clerk.
