'Tis said that music is the universal language of mankind, and every Boys Town citizen is given ample opportunity to speak that language. If he has the desire and ability to sing, he may join one of the three choirs. Experience in the chancel and repertoire choirs may qualify the boy for partic- ipation in the concert choir, which last fall con- certized throughout the Northeastern States, climaxing their tour with ten memorable days in Cuba. The choristers registered unanimous agre- ement that the long hours of rigorous rehearsal were a small price to pay for the exciting plane trip to Havana. The boy who Wants to play an instrument has limitless opportunities for both group and in- dividual study. Marching and concert bands operate on high school and grade school levels, and more than a third of Boys Townis young men zuicancfgouq' play hand instruments. A sizeable group of boys study stringed instruments, Working toward the establishment of a symphony orchestra. Piano and organ are studied privately by serveral dozen boys, whose daily practice periods culminate in reeitals Where the pianists pleasantly surprise their friends with technical progress. Less formal sessions in the cottages demonstrate that they can also play upopsv. Even the boys who do not perform any of these varied musical skills have the opportunity to participate as spectators when the department presents concerts by such famed artists as the Roger Wagner Chorale, the Little Singers of Paris, the Omaha Symphony Orchestra, the Uni- versity of Nebraska Symphony, The Santa Cecilia Choir of Rome, and the world-renowned Belgian organist, Flor Peeters.
