iffzkrfcl of .xdcfiuified OPPOSITE PAGE 1, Plumbing is considered one of the most practical courses at Tech. lt prepares students for the very work they will do in their trade in the very way they will do it. The upper right picture has Ellis Rahn and Donald Gutknecht assembling three inch copper stock in Room lOO. ln the center picture above, we see Mr. C. M. Hoffman polishing his car in preparation for a trip. Below him is Mr. W. W. Dusold, our amiable and capable assistant football coach, with his daughter, Deborah. Here he has iust returned home from duty as a Commanding Officer in the National Guard. His very little spare time is given to swimming and a home workshop. The upper left picture shows the Chairman of the Plumbing Department, Mr. W. O. Wegner, with part of his photography equipment. Fishing and other sports also occupy his spare time. Below him, Mr. L. Tenwinkel is reading a travel supplement to a Sunday newspaper in anticipation of a motor trip. Physical Education teachers occupy the middle row of pictures with a calisthenics group illustrating their line of endeavor at the right. Donald Biedenbender, Harlan Laird, Richard Hankwitz, and Donald Perlberg are doing pushups. The litter of pups at the left is cared for by Mr. J. J. Eldredge who enioys hunting, of course, and fishing. Mr. C. Scherr, next to him, is planing a storm window in preparation for cold weather. He is our genial swimming coach who quite naturally takes to sailing and boat building besides the body building and boy building he does in his classes. Mr. J. T. Richardson, our very successful football coach, is pictured next with his two sons, Tom and Jack, who will have to go some in emulating their father. Besides athletics he likes bait and fly casting and puttering around the house. At the right, Mr. W. Muth, our triple championship gym team coach and Department Chairman, is hunting pheasants with his dog. ln summer, he relaxes fishing. Auto Shop teachers at the bottom of the page are Mr. E. Strowig, Mr. S. Hineline, Mr. H. Genske, and Mr. J. W. Rasmussen. Mr. Strowig, Head of the Trade Auto Shop, enioys fishing and working with his son, Robert, around the house. Mr. Hineline is a fisherman too when his yard or a neighbor's automobile doesn't demand his attention. Mr. Genske, Chairman of the Auto-Aero Department, has an acre of garden in the country which gives him little time for his boating and travel. In winter, he confines himself in his workshop. Mr. Rasmussen enioys the beauty of his home and the care of his garden. LEFT At the left Gordon Glatzel, Ralph Ochnikowski, and Donald Kraft are tuning up a motor in Auto Shop. Below, left, Mr. E. J. Burns illustrates his hobby of boating. The propeller here is from his pleasure boat which is docked on the river downtown in winter, but is constantly on the go on Lake Michigan in summer. Mr. W. R. Rudesill fCenterl gets ready for the golfing season while Mr. G. Janssen tRightt tells of the touring he has done and the 500 mile races he has a.tended in the past. He also likes bike racing and golf and hiking. The fine teachers on these pages are made better by a world of experiences. wg X if

qflirfol ofcgndlairafion OPPOSITE PAGE 1+ The Social Science, Music, and Art teachers are shown here in their outside activities. The picture at the upper right has Donald Warsh, William Mikich, Anthony lrek, and Gerald Flessate discussing the present world situation in a history class. At the left is Mr. T. Heidtke who looks mighty unlike a history teacher while he rakes his lawn. He also likes hiking. At the top are Mr. A. Lilly and Mr. W. A. Becker. Mr. Lilly, having his students' welfare always in mind, here discusses one of his charges with a mother at Open House. Mr. Becker is shown in his American Legion office acting as chairman of his district's March of Dimes campaign. He also enioys camping and fishing and travel- ing so he likes to go to Badger Boys State where he teaches Parliamentary Law. Below these two is Mr. N. Skaros teaching his daughter Susan and a playmate how to fish for trout. Under him is Mr. L. R. Thomas occupied here in reading. He plays bridge and keeps his old interest in all forms of athletics. Mr. H. W. Nicolaus stands below Mr. Heidtke. ln summer he manages water shows in connection with the Jackson Park Fourth of July celebration. All south side high schools are represented in these shows. The Music department is shown in the center pictures. Mr. J. T. Oakes is putting finishing touches on his new home. He seems as handy with the saw as with a baton. To his right are two of his charges, Walter Golbuff and Harold Johnson, laughing at a sour note in Barracks 4. Below them is Mr. E. M. Mueller with his first loves, Kathy and Michael. No wonder his hobbies center around the home! There is hardly time for fishing, he says. The Art department is portrayed at the bottom of the page. Mr. H. L. Thurn, our ceramics expert, has a separate studio where he specializes in pottery. He also enioys fine music. Mr. R. E. Cote, Department Chairman, is evaluating a work of art at his desk. His hobbies are color photography and designing and building homes. Mr. D. Gill has recently built his own home. This is a picture of genius at work-mixing mortar. Mr. G. O. Young designed the whole fireplace in front of which he sits teaching his son, Richard, drawing. The care of his home and reading divert his attention from school work. At the bottom of this page are pictured James Anson, Arnold Wichman, and Robert Horn discussing an art problem in the Art department.
