1927 MAROON and WHITE 4- fo score came in the last quarter when we received a dropped punt on the three yard line DeWitt Penrose Emory and Dowell starred for us while Nott England Aaron and Griffith played best for Donaldson On Friday October 15 we clashed with Friends School This the sec ond game on our schedule was not what we expected In the first quarter after recovering a fumble on the twenty yard line Penrose made our only score Up to this time our whole team played splendidly but after scoring we seemed to slump Near the end of the third quarter Friends touchdown was made by the completion of a forward pass FI he final score was 6 to 6 Saturday October Z3 the team journeyed to Washington to oppose the St Albans eleven Weikened by the absence of Penrose Johnson and Dob bm who arrived late we went into the fray strictly on the defensive The St Albans backs plunged through our defense for two touchdowns in the first quarter The following period they added yet another score At the half the belated captain and players went into the fight 'Ihe team now braced and the third quarter was scoreless One more touchdown was scored on us in his perfect kicking The game ended Z8 to 0 in St Albans favor Our fourth game that with the Army Navy Prep School came as a bit of a surprise Two days before Darrel had broken his Wrist a blow from which we never recovered We missed his punting ability terribly in the game and the absence of it had a great deal to do with the final outcome They scored once after blocking Penrose s kick in the first quarter and again in the last quarter after blocking one of Whitman s kicks The score was 12 0 On Friday November 7 the team met McDonogh at Mt Washington The big Maroon team started off with a bang and the first two plays netted a first down On the very next play Penrose twisted his ankle and was forced to retire from the game Dobbm was shifted to quarter and play was once more resumed Prom this time on our team was on the defense and seemed to be stunned by the casualty The Lynch brothers with their wonderful inter ference were too much for us and before the final whistle blew the score was 31 to O in their favor The good work of the Dunham line prevented a much larger score because McDonogh is rated as one of the best teams in the State The last game of the season was with Marstons and it surely was a Htting close for Dunhams We defeated our old rivals by the score of 12 to 6 Marstons kicked off and DeWitt after receiving the ball on the eighty yard line ran it back twenty yards After two plays in which he had gained a first down Penrose s ankle was hurt and Whitman replaced him at quarterback At that point we began a march which netted five first downs and a touchdown in the first ten minutes of play DeWitt and Dobbm carried the ball steadily until with three yards to make the latter plunged across the line On the try for extra point a pass from Whitman to Dobbm was unsuccessful Dobbm now kicked off and the ball was run back to the sixty five yard line Gains by Bosley of ten eleven and eight yards coupled with a penalty for Dunham s being offsides brought the ball to our fifteen yard line There Dobbin intercepted a pass from Bosley and ran the length of the field only to find that Dunham had again been offsides Marston s fourth down with five yards to go and but fifteen yards for a touchdown We held and on the first down Dobbm kicked to midneld The quarter ended two plays later Page as , l V l 3 - . 7 ' v 5 I ' ' A I - l I 5 I - Y ' , X i ' I ' 3 1 Kc D I ' 'I x I i X 1 H 4 .1 ' , D ' T 3 ' D ' H X I l A 3 A .
